<sigh>

Still at it, I see.  Leave you alone for a few days while I'm off chasing bugs, and you've screwed up your forum again.

K@, this is a hopeless case, but if it's any help to you, we did an upgrade from .1x to 2.0 a week or two ago, cleaned everything up, running fine, and he crashed it the next day installing ad mods.  Been doing this for months, and many have tried to help.

Gunpoint, a few things to bear in mind:

- Your forum does not have enough members or traffic to make money with ads.

- You will not build membership/traffic if you're constantly crashing the board installing mods.

- If you keep hopping around this forum seeking help in multiple topics with different screenames, you will get a lot of well intentioned, but sometimes conflicting advice.  If you try all of it yourself without understanding what you're doing, your board will never work right.

Let's see what K@ can do for you.

Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend,
we were all equal in the end.

Yeah, I'll need admin access, eventually.

PM me those and we'll see what we can do.

It'll be tomorrow, though, coz it's nearly bedtime, here, again.

Send me a PM, when you're around, tomorrow, and we'll see what we can do.

When we get started, I'll assume that you've taken a full backup, OK?

Gunpoint

krash. nice to see you. the forum was actually completed before this happened. i just wanted to insert ad codes and be sure that i needed less reason to login into the admin panel. the forum was complete without a fault until i activated simple ads. thats was it.                                                                                             what kind of backup do you want me to do. and how do you want me to do it. cause am guessing its not the database.

Gunpoint

how can i back up, i don't know how to back up the whole smf, I only know how to back up the database, how can i do the back up your talking about.

would send it to you tomorrow morning

Sir Osis of Liver

Just backup the database, the rest is crap and will have to be reloaded.    Backup the db with phpmyadmin in your cpanel, not the SMF backup utility.

SimpleAds is an RC4 mod - I think I cautioned you once before about installing incompatible mods.

Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend,
we were all equal in the end.

kat

I've tried to get him to backup everything. Just in case. ;)

kat

I'm done it, myself.

Saves hassle.

Odd thing, though.

For reasons best known to others, there are theme files and directories in the root.

Quite what that's all about I just can't imagine.

So, when I've finished backing-up, I'm gonna go for it...

kat

Backing up's taking ages, because you have every language known to man installed, for some reason...

Gunpoint

okay your backing up already,

Theme files, dont have a clue on that

so incase of next time, before installing  mods

, all i have to do is login into my cpanel, click on 'Backups' on the files area

and click 'Download or generate full website backup' right

kat

Just the "Home directory" will be enough.

You might want to dump some of your language files.

They're taking-up a lot of room and they take ages to backup.

You even have Hebrew and Galician in there.

Illori

dont forget a backup of your database, i dont think that is included when you backup the files.

kat

I think he's managed to get the idea, with that. :)

I have to say, Gunny... Your forum's a bit of a mess. :(

I'm clearing it up, as best I can, here, but...

Gunpoint

;(

:( wow, smf is not easy to handle as i thought.

is the database something like this "Download a MySQL Database Backup"

I backed up the database on smf admin area the 19th quite a while now

The languages, no wonder, there were times i wondered how some french members understood what there were doing on my forum,

they were posting topics written, in french. i guess thats why. English is okay, that's the only language files i need at the moment

kat

Admin>Languages is where you go to remove them.

It's lumbering through Turkish files, at the moment...

This is gonna take a while, this... :(

kat

Illori

the backup function in the admin panel, is not always good at doing a backup it is not recommended to be used.

kat

I believe the devs are considering removing that option. :)

RESULT! :)

Gunpoint

kat

Yeah, it sure won't hurt.

I'm not doing anything "database", here. It's just the files I'm messing around with.

Gunpoint

okay, when the forum is okay, i would remove the languages not needed

okay, downloading the database now
