So i'm on 2.0.1 and members have been reporting an unusual issue as of late (I have not experienced this issue).

To quote a member:
"when you click to go to a "new" post in a topic it brings you roughly a post lower than the actual "new" post"

I'm clueless as to what could fix the issue

Are you using the default theme?

Using a color variation of the default theme.

ApplianceJunk

Does the problem still happen when you use the default theme?

"It still does it it starts loading to the right spot, and then jumps once it's done loading. Yup, definitely still doing it."

Just a hunch...

Try going to Admin>Server Settings and renaming the cookie.

It'll force everyone to log in, again, but you never know... ;)

OK, let's try the obvious things, first.

Have you been to Forum Maintenance and done the optimis(z)ation thing?

Repaired errors and all that luvverly stuff?

Ricky.

Or may be he needs to arrange post order , one of his member couldd have changed it to show latest post on top in a TOPIC !!
He can go to Admin --> Themes and layout --> Reset option
And change settings for everywhere to not to show latest post at topic of topic..

bros

No errors found.

Tables have been optimized.

"nope, still happening"

It isn't happening for everyone.

Nobody has Show most recent posts at the top. on

If I was in your position, I think I'd be slapping my host about, to see if there's anything squiffy at their end.

Unless... Have you installed any mods, recently?

Nope, had the same mods (updated them of course) since being on SMF 2.x

We host ourselves on a VPS. Anything I should look for in particular?

kat

I'm at a loss...

Tell me something...

Do the members who're experiencing this have anything in common?

Like... Are they all using the same theme?

Everyone uses the same theme. It's just a simple color variation on Curve.

They are using different browsers. Some Chrome, some Firefox. I am using Chrome and I don't get the issue. Different Operating Systems for everyone too.

Not happening for everyone -- can you provide a link to a problem page? Maybe a look at the HTML would help a bit.

kat

I'm suspecting something not loading, properly.

Like an ad, or something like that.

The users reporting the issue are the ones who don't have ads :P

at least as far as I know

Are all these users on the same browser, say, IE8?

So [IE8] users with ads don't see any problem? You might want to look at the difference in HTML between the two -- maybe the browser is choking on something odd left behind when there's no ad.

No.

All of the users have different browsers

The only people I know of that are having the issues are the only people who do not see the ads (Only ~150 people out of ~3000 members do not see ads)

One person is using Mozilla Firefox and Windows XP

Another is using Google Chrome and Windows 7.

One person gets it on their blackberry.

Angelina Belle

I'd be happy to look for differences in the HTML, but I don't know how to make the ads go away.
If you could create a no-ads test account, and PM me the details...

What I saw did not seem to look at all like something to do with white space and a missing tag.
It seems to be about the wrong message number altogether.

What mods do you have installed? What other customizations have you made?
Here's what I observed.
On http://mushroom-kingdom.info/boards/index.php?board=7.0, I saw the "new" tag on the topic RIA diplomate .
That "new" tag had the URL http://mushroom-kingdom.info/boards/index.php?topic=39444.msg594576#new
When I clicked that link, I found myself at
http://mushroom-kingdom.info/boards/index.php?topic=39433.msg594576#msg594576, at the top of the page.

And here's why.

That topic (39433) does not contain a post with message id 594576.  I searched the source of the page, and could not find it.
So I tried to go to that message directly.
http://mushroom-kingdom.info/boards/index.php?msg=594576

Where did I find myself at that point?
at http://mushroom-kingdom.info/boards/index.php?topic=39433.msg594576#msg594576, which I am not allowed to see.

So I concluded you've got something running that doesn't always get the correct msg_id for the "new" link from the board listing.

Less-priveleged users are not having this problem?
