Ricky.

You need to ask your host about your ftp username and password, if you have cPanel hosting then your cpanel login will also work in FTP.
Hostname is generally  your website address.

If you have CPanel, you can create additional accounts in the "Files" section, under "FTP accounts".

More people will be able to help you if you use Filezilla.  It's available for Mac.

Dunno if this affects the Mac version...

But, go to the "Transfers" menu and make sure "Transfer type" is set to "Binary", or you'll get errors.

do u basically just make a folder on the left side and just drag and drop all the files from ur website into that folder?

That's about the size of it, yeah.

Right-click on the files/directories you want to upload/download and select... er... "Download" or "Upload". ;)
