Attachments not downloading correctly

I have an issue that I hope is a simple fix. I just got my SMF boards up and functional last week and everything seems to be running great except for attachments. We are not having a problem attaching files to posts, the problem lies when you go to open/view the attachment. When you click on the link, a pop comes up asking if you want to download the file, and the file name is index.php and it is an unknown file type.

If you select to download the file, it does, and then it will ask you what program you want to use to open it. If you choose the right software (i.e. Acrobat for PDF, Excel for xls) it opens the file.

Still, I would like to have the download of attachments work correctly and for the uploaded images to be thumbnailed.

Any help is appreciated.

Let me correct my post above -

When pictures are attached to posts, they do thumbnail and the will expand if clicked on. The problem with all files is when you click on the file link, it is downloading the index.php file.

Uploaded a fresh new board to a new folder on my web and added another set of tables with a new extension. It has no data in it, except the original Welcome to SMF post that is there on start up.

I added a new post with a picture attachment. Again, the thumbnail is there and it works fine, but when I click the hyperlink below it, I get the same message that the file is named Index and has no type.

I think it is safe to say that it is not the Simple Machines Software, but a setting with my database server. Question is what do I need to do - or ask my dbase server to do - to get the files to download properly?

Any suggestions?

Am I too vague in the description of the problem? Is this something that SMF techs have never seen? Is this something that is outside of their perview?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

What type of file physically is it that is attached?

(Also, please do not bump within 24 hours of posting; we're all volunteers here, and in any case you'd often be better off just editing your first post as new information came to light)

The file type in particular is a PDF, but all file types that I have set up as allowed files are causing the same thing.

I can download the intact file, but you have to rename it (change it from index to whatever name I want to use) and put on the appropriate extension.

Here is a link to a test forum that I created on my site if you wanna see what I am talking about.

The same issue is happening in both my test and my running boards that I set up for my business.

I have to believe it is my server/webhost but they will not troubleshoot, but will correct their settings if they know what settings to correct.

Arantor

Hmm. Does it happen in any other browser?

djoos5

I am sorry, but I do not have any other kind of browser on my PC.

Arantor

Huh, weird.

I just clicked the download link on both in Chrome and resulted in index.php.jpg images which is definitely weird.

* Arantor is not sure what to make of that.

Just to help the designer team out -

both my working forum and the test forum are fresh installs from the SMF 2.0 RC2 download package. I did add a mod to my working forum (Topic Solved adjusted for SMF 2.0), but I tested the download function both before the mod was installed and after with the same results.

djoos5, is this issue resolved now? If not, can you upload a test file to your web server and see if you can download the file from there? Should be fine, but just confirming it...

Find out from your webhost if they meet all the requirements outlined here.

Post a link to your site followed by phpinfo.php (ex: http://www.yoursite.com/phpinfo.php). Just post the LINK itself (no need to copy and paste all the information here). If you can't get it to work, take a look here to see how to create one.

No, it is still not resolved. I uploaded a test document to the server. You can see it if you click:

Yea, my webhost and I ran down all the compatibility - they said they meet all reqs.

I am having the same issue.  When downloading a PDF attachment, I get the index.php from the attachment folder.  I tried attaching a jpg and it worked OK, so it looks like the PDF file is the issue for some reason.  I thought it was just one site, but I pulled up another site I have and checked one of the pdf attachment and it was the same way.

Anyone come up with a solution yet?
