Pinpointing where the issue is coming from atm as it is completely random.

Please be advised that for diagnostic purposes, SMF will be unavailable for a timeframe of about 30 to 45 minutes later today.

Is that because of high visitors amount? I've experienced lags earlier.

I saw forums on SMF running huge communities, so I think it should handle this.

Aware of it, busy running maintenance to some parts of the server structure which is elevating the loads on the nodes.

Nah, 1600 people online is not a huge deal; the peak for the month so far was 2400 or so IIRC.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

There is *far* more traffic than meets the eye from the forum whois online of course.
The occasional lags with the forum will be fixed soon though when we install new servers and rebuild some key infrastructure points.

lets hope you can figure it out soon.
as a web host myself i know it's a pain when you have a problem that no-one can put their finger on.

but it is a pain when it's not working and as K said virtually un-usable unfortunately
