I believe you might have to pay to get the database backup to be able to move to another hosting.

smitch6

i think thats why they want to leave them as they have said they charge for everything on that site

okies my customer has paid for the database off this old firm
so i will be uploading the latest 2.0.3 forum onto the new server for them

now obviously they want to keep all the previous posts and log-ins etc for admin and members

what is the best way to go about this pls?

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I think it would be one charge to export it all. Anyhow you can scrap the attachments and mods and just use the stock install with the old db if worst comes to worst.

From what I recall... there ARE a couple of "commercial" mods that are included with Create-A-Forum... from the same generous soul who runs the place (of course).  However,  there are free and paid alternatives available from other sources (the mod site here,  www.smfpacks.com,  and www.livemods.com are a couple places to look).

Colin

Frizzlefried, I understand you are frustrated, but taking it out on others topics is not acceptable. You are aware of the appropriate channels to use.

okies we have the DB in sql format
he has said it has everything in there that we need so lets hope it is.

right the next problem i have is obviously the url and db names have changed
i have looked at the faqs and it says change the name of the db to match the back-up db
thats not going to work as the user etc has changed as this is now a proper hosting acc

the url's have all changed as well as before it was a sub directory whereas this time its their own

mmmmm that hasn't worked lol

after spending ages trying to upload the sql file i finally did it
i re-named it to match the new DB

then ran the repair_settings.php and no joy what so ever?

looking in the DB there are now 2 sets of files
the original new ones which start smf_
then the new old ones from old server which are titled cfff_

Which one do you want ?

Look in Settings.php and adjust the forum prefix setting ($db_prefix) to match the one you want. (I can't remember if repair_settings.php does that).

Although you have two sets in your database it will only be using the ones with the prefix that's in Settings.php  Essentially, the other ones are redundant and they can be deleted later on once all is up and running correctly.
