The IMG BBC tag allows specifying an URI pointing to an image.

When I set a valid relative URI not containing a scheme ("thus, beginning with //") after saving SMF converted it from
[img]// to [img]<forumscheme>//<forumdomain>//.

Ever since browsers started to not load mixed content at all any more on HTTPS websites over half a year ago this issue became very apparent and visible because image links can not be specified protocol independently.

For reference, as per RFC 3986 (URI) section 5.2 and especially 5.3 a relative URI does not have to contain a scheme.
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3986#section-5.3

I am using SMF 2.0.7.

As with the more typical example - mail address validators - if implementing custom verification logic one has to be careful to correctly follow the standard and not just the most common use case.

this is not a bug...

SMF only processes fully realized URLs for the image BBC
