In short, no.
Although that might seem like a good idea, it is not. Just do it right.

Just do it right.

that is really helpful... why dont you tell the user what is the right way to do it...

do you mean editing the database and replacing all http with https? if so you should give an example of how to do that.

Kindred

Because, illori, there are already 29 threads, plus a wiki article on converting a site to https.

And converting the contents of the database messages table whole cloth run into the same issues as using the censor. .. although using the censor is probsbly the worst way to do it....

And also because the explanation would be extremely difficult to do from my phone.  So, if you feel my answer needs more detail,  instead of complaining,  why don't YOU give the detail?

oh there is a wiki article on this? http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=ssl
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=all&search=https&fulltext=Search

i dont see any wiki article on this. i dont know what your way of doing it is. if you want someone to follow some directions then we need to provide them to the user.

actually, unless the link is an embeded image i see no reason to change a link to https in a message. if a normal link is changed to https then you may get cert errors if that site does not support https.
