When I go to to Admin>Configuration>FeaturesAndOptions>General, I reach a:
404 Error File Not Found

What I did before this happened was:
- I upgraded the addon 'Google Analytics Code', and then I...
- Upgraded from SMF 2.0.4 to 2.0.5.

I have no idea how to resolve this.  :o

What can I do to fix it?

Kindred

well - did you take a backup before doing your upgrade?

If not, you COULD try recovering the possible autobackup form the packages/backups directory...

or, you could bite the bullet and do a full upgrade directly to 2.0.9 (although that will require you to reinstall your mods)

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

What file can't be found, exactly? Knowing which file it's looking for can help to figure out where the problem is.

Thank you for a super-quick response!  :)

No. But this has hopefully taught me a lesson to do backups in the future.
Using FileZilla, within the 'Packages'-folder, I do see a folder called 'Backups'! There are five files from today:
2015-04-22_backup_google_analytics.tar.gz
2015-04-22_before_GoogleAnalytics.tar.gz
2015-04-22_before_smf_patch_1.tar.gz
2015-04-22_before_smf_patch_2.tar.gz
2015-04-22_before_smf_patch_2_2.tar.gz

I have never done a restore before and I don't want to screw up stuff more.

So what is the proper way to go about of trying to do a restore?

Love the responsive support here on SMF!  :)

Well... I'm not sure how to find out what file it's looking for? How do I do that?
If the URL can be of help it is like this:

domainname.com/admin/index.php?area=featuresettings;sa=basic;bbff417548=bd6aa9ce2de4c3f40ac086b76482574c

Check your server logs. If you have cPanel it will tell you which file triggers the 404 error ;)

Oh wait, I see: you have admin/index.php. SMF has no admin folder, your paths are wrong. Do you have pretty urls or any other redirect in place?

Yup I do have Pretty URLs.
So what is my next step in solving this? ☺

margarett

I would say uninstall it :P
If you can't or won't do that, then post in its support topic ;)

So is the mod 'Pretty URLs' the cause of this error? ???
Will I be able to reinstall it after uninstalling it?

Sorry I'm not so savvy of how these things work yet.

margarett

Most likely yes. In no part of SMF an action inside admin links like that.
Can you try
domainname.com/index.php?action=admin;area=featuresettings;sa=basic

Oki. I tried the URL you wrote, and it works.
How can I get stuff working and still use 'Pretty URL's'?  :)

I noticed there was a later version of 'Pretty URL's', so here's what I did:
- I uninstalled the version I had.
Then stuff worked but no pretty urls.
- I Installed the latest version of 'Pretty URL's'.
Now stuff seems to be working! Yay!  :D

But this episode brings up three questions:
1: Is there a mod to automatically backup my forum in case things like this happen again?
2: Is there a mod to automatically keep my mods up to date?
3: Now, my URL to the same "General" page is:
DomainName.com/admin/?area=featuresettings;sa=basic;bbff417548=bd6aa9ce2de4c3f40ac086b76482574c
...is this how things should be? (before it said index.php after admin)

margarett

1: no. SMF automatically performs a backup when you install/uninstall a MOD yes
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Modifications_-_A_mod_broke_my_forum_what_should_I_do
but you can't just rely on that as it only stores some files. A good backup is *ALL* files + database, which you should perform yourself. There are some tricks to do it through your control panel ;)

2: no, and there won't be. Some MODs can fail on install/uninstall/upgrade and SMF can't make decisions for you. Besides, the current implementation of Package Manager and our modsite can't really do that.

3: no idea, never used that MOD. Again, refer to the MOD support topic.
