Weird search results

If I search for a common word on my forum, from 0 to 9999 days (default), it find only 30 posts.
Changing the range from 0 to 500 days, it finds 690 posts.

I am using the custom search index, which I already tried re-creating.

Anyone know what could be causing this behavior?

Problem has been solved. The default search methods do not work properly on bigger boards.
Use of external search indexer (Sphinx) solved the problem.

That's not a solution imo. That's circumventing the problem. I think someone with more knowledge than I should take a look at this. I'm going to mark this unsolved temporarily till one of the staff sees this.

Sphinx is a valid solution for large forums. marking this solved again. Mr. Jinx is a member of the big boards group where Sphinx is recommended.

not sure what the cause actually is....   but Sphinx is the proper way to go, once your board reaches the size of needing a dedicated server

Okay, just wanted to be sure you guys knew about it and didn't skip the thread because it was marked solved. And I didn't know the information about his board size.
