Only inputted members can view thread (permissions per thread)

You make a new thread and you have an option to only allow specified members to see this thread. You enter the usernames/displaynames and hit post. Only those members can see and interact within the thread. On the alternative: Thread title is shown to everyone, followed by the usernames selected, but on access "You are not allowed to view this".

I would love to see this feature for collaborative uses, such as collaborating on a song over a forum - files and ideas can be shared without the worries of them being stolen by a random member.

This is actually a complicated scenario, because it's more than just the thread display in the message index...  you have to handle direct access, display of the thread in the recent posts, RSS feeds, users list of posts and possibly several other places.

This is not exactly what you are looking for in regards to individual members, but should do almost everything else you are looking for if you created a specific membergroup and put certain members in that group

Also, don't do anything like install a portal because that will have problems too in terms of leaking content with such mods.

I just might stick to membergroups and making boards specific to the membergroups for now as there's not a lot of groups of members just yet, hoping maybe there'll be an easier solution with the new SMF version or some future mod.

No... there are no p,and to ever do something like this as a core feature...  it defeats the purpose of a a FORUM (which is open communication)

There is a help desk mod (simpledesk) which allows only certain groups and the original poster to see the thread in the help desk

But no mods, tha I know of, which allows you to specify which users can see a thread...  tha is pretty much contrary to the design of smf, which bases permissions on group, not on individual users

What you really want is actually the way I'd implement PMs if I were to ever do the forum software thing again, and make it so instead of a collection of 1-1 messages, I'd make it a specialised type of thread where you invite people to the 'conversation' like how XenForo does it.
