Where do i put my Header Tag? (H1 tag)

Hi, I am quite inexperienced when it comes to coding and really do not have a clue what i am doing, but i really want my site to get the best SEO score as possible. I did a SEO check up and found out i do not have a H1 tag and this can penalize my site. I was told that you have to put the code after the <body>

So, i went into my index.template.php and found this:

echo '
</head>
<body>';
}

I placed this code underneath the body <h1>My chosen header tag</h1>

However, all this did was give me a Templete parse error, I have since fixed it and put it back the way it was, however i still have no H1 tag. What am i doing wrong? did i put the code in the wrong place or something?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The default theme does come with an h1 tag, so not sure why you don't have one...

and yes... you
1) put the code in the wrong place,
2) can't just drop code anywhere, it need to be within an echo statement,
3) would never want to hard code the h1 tag anyway...

however, as Arantor says, your site should have an h1 set already.

What version of SMF? mods installed? themes installed? what is the URL of your forum?
