Hi guys,

well, this issue baffles me:

I set up a subdomain for my forum www.forum.DOMAINNAME.de so I would not need to see the whole cryptic path which ultimattely leads to the folder in my server where SMF is installed.

Well, I have ot solve my issue with that one yet, because what happened was this:

After putting in the new subdomain as the where the forum is located (which was the subdomain which in turn referred to the catial folder on my server), I could not log in as Administator nor with my coverntional user name (I also have a secind account there).

Instead, "Referring Site invalid. Please go back and try again." showed up.

I thought, I could undo the setting in the settings.php where it says in line 26

$boardurl =

When I looked in the settings.php, I did find the new subdomain and changed it back to the former path and uploaded the settings.php via ftp.

Then, I could log in again.

This was yesterday - but today: Same ******!

Now, I am clueless...

Please help...!

Thanx

Chris

Addendum

I just found out, log in works fine, if the old URL with the cryptic path is used.

When using the subdomain, the referring does not work.

Why? The subdomain leads to the same folder...?

Run the repair_setting.php tooll to correct the urls and paths so they can point to the subdomain.

and turn on subdomain independent cookies (turn off local cookies first)

Thanx ladies and gentlemen,

but first things first and for my clarity:

What shall I do first?

Shall I FIRST re-enter the subdomain name at "Administration > Server > Database/paths > forum URL"?

EDIT: There are also the entries for:

SMF index
Sources index
Cache-index

In my understanding, alle previus paths need to be exchanged with the subdomain namem right?

?

- ...and HOW do I do this?
I never did that before.

And THEN

?

EDIT: I did that already.

In other words, this appears to be a complexer issue - and I don't wanna see me handling the .php files again in order to log in myself (let alone the users).

So, I'd realy appreciate a step-by-step recommendation... ;-)

Heaps of thanx!!

upload and run repair_settings.php

make sure ALL of your URLs are pointing to the correct subdomain.
(incidentally -- most subdomains do not use a www before the subdomain)

Also, check your .htaccess -- if that is redirecting you to something other than the expected subdomain URL, you might also see this failure

I uploaded it into the install-folder of SMF, right?

Alright, but which URLs are you talking about exactly?
Only the ones I have stated above? I do not wanna miss out one some...

It might sound strange, but I do not find a htaccess file in my SMF Folders.
What to do about this?
Where is it supposed to be?

so this

wp12922522_51TYC6CA14/www/simplemachine/smf_2-0-15_install

is the actual folder where SMF is installed.

forum.seelenerbe.de is directing to this folder.

RUNNING REPAIR SETTINGS.PHP:
When saying, all URLs need to be updated, I am a bit confused what to do with entries like

/is/htdocs/wp12922522_51TYC6CA14/www/simplemachine/smf_2-0-15_install

Normally, I would have exchanged "wp12922522_51TYC6CA14/www/" with forum.seelenerbe.de

But this /is/htdocs/ part confuses me.

/is/htdocs/wp12922522_51TYC6CA14/www/simplemachine/smf_2-0-15_install it is the folder where your main forum is residing on. You have to upload said file inside the forum folder, which is used for your subdomain.

your host may be hiding the full path to your files from you. if you are not sure if it is correct you would be best to reach out to them to have them confirm if the path is correct.
