Creating a specific type of member-only forum

Hi everybody! Total N00b here, and I've gone through the past couple of years of posts on this forum trying to find the specific bit of "how to" I need, without any success.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

There is a local group of people who are wishing to leave a particular Social Media website, and would like to have a forum for themselves.
One of the necessities this forum would have to have is member-only access. In other words, someone who is not a member would not have access to see anything other than a generic page. Without membership there would be no way to see posts, attachments, information, or anything about the members.

What would have to be done in order to make this form of security for this type of forum?

Easy, there's an option in the general settings area "allow guests to view the forum", untick it and save and now everyone has to log in to see anything.

I looked through hundreds of posts, read the Online Manual twice, and never found a single mention of that.

Thanks very much for the reply!! That's exactly what I was looking for.

Allow guests to browse the forum - If selected, guests will have the privilege of browsing your forum. Otherwise, only registered users will be allowed to browse your forum and when a guest tries to access the forum they will see a login screen with a note that the forum is only for registered members.

you probably also want to set:
Method of registration employed for new members - The type of registration that is set for the forum. The following options are available:
Immediate Registration - New members can login and post immediately after registering on your forum.
Email Activation - When this option is enabled any members registering to the forum will have an activation link emailed to them which they must click before they can become full members.
Admin Approval - This option will make it so all new members registering on your forum will need to be approved by the admin before they become members. Approval must be granted from the administration panel for a registration e-mail to be sent to a new member.
Registration Disabled - Disables the registration process, which means that no new members can register to join your forum.

EvilTessmacher  you are to be applauded for doing some of your own research before asking a question of that nature - thank you.

Welcome., by the way.
Please do not PM, IM or Email me with questions on astrophysics or theology.  You will get better and faster responses by asking homeless people in the street. Thank you.
