Hello... does anyone know if there will be a backup database feature?

You can currently get a dump of your database, not sure yet how much it will be expanded though.

it's a very useful db tool

Thank I have phpMyAdmin... I just figures out how to use it. *LOL* It is just that this is my first week with Yabb and it is a lot of stuff to learn. I guess I annoy everyone here by asking obvious questions.

LOL, nah it's not one bit annoying because we all went through stuff like that.  Think of dump in this way:  You're dumping a copy of your database into a file for backup.

I guess I will dump my page now... I have to move to another host. We are generating too much traffic somehow.

This brings up a very good point.  WHY in the CRAP should we keep it dump?  If I saw that in Windows:

"Dump Windows"

I would freak out and get scared of that stupid button.

We should rename it to something like...

"Download database" or "Get a copy of the database" or "Backup database".

I think pushing it would be a great idea   ;D

Hi,

another backup related question

I have a 90Mb forum database and the messages table take up most space, naturally.

When i started the board I used the mysqldump command , but as my database grew I had to 'pipe' it right into a gz-file otherwise I would conflict with settings from the provider.

Now my database has become so large that even this 'piping' trick no longer seems to work.

So I had a look at the lastest edition of PhpMyAdmin that allows you to export your database.
This also resulted in some problems:

- i edited the IIS-setting (working from W2K environment) concerning cgi timeout problems and
- i have edited the php.ini file concerning the timeout settings.

Now i'm faced with another problem: after 8Mb of exporting through PhpMyAdmin it stops and the last line of the created file says:

Quote
<b>Fatal error</b>:  Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in <b>d:\inetpub\wwwroot\phpMyAdmin2\libraries\mysql_wrappers.lib.php</b> on line <b>124</b><br />

php.ini looks like this:
max_execution_time = 300000
max_input_time = 240
memory_limit = 400M

Anyone any ideas??

Large databases are indeed a pain to backup. For my own databases I made a tool that splits up the dump into chunks based on an execution time threshold. I might be able to convert it to the SMF [/s]dump[/s]backup database function.
