No error logging, no YouTube video links posted

One of my forum members pointed out that upon posting a link of a YouTube video, only a white area was displayed and no video was shown.
I wanted to check it, noticed the same issue and wanted to see if any errors had been logged. However, my error log is completely empty! No entry at all.

I am not familiar with me making any changes to this recently. Any idea? Working with version 2.0.15. I find it hard to believe, there are no errors at all :)

Does it happen to that member only? If so, the problem lies with whatever device he is using to post youtube videos.

Plantje

The member has tried several different ways of posting: pc, tablet, phone. All the same result. I tried posting that video as well and had the same issue.
One other member came to the conclusion that perhaps the video itself is the culprit. Tried linking another video and that worked without issues!

Still weird I have no error logging at all!

Is this from a mod? If so you need to post in the mods support topic.

Plantje

No, I don't think so. The user just posts the link. And I am just looking in the default error log.

So, SMF does not process link destinations --- which means that, if your youtube link is pulling up a player (even a blank one), then you have some sort of YouTube mod installed.

Please post a link to the bad youtube?

Noticed that some users were seeing it. And when visiting from my Nextgen Reader or Feedly app I was able to view it.

And indeed: https is the culprit. While using https it is not visible, while going to the same website using http the videos are visible. Not sure what the best course of action is now.

Hmmm... seems to be a little bit different. The member copies the link from the YouTube app. That results in a link like: https://youtu.be/[something] That link doesn't work. Whereas the same video linked as https://youtube.com/[something] does work.

h t t p s://w w w.youtu.be/watch?v=AefXU4rr72o doesn't work
https://www.youtu.be/watch?v=AefXU4rr72o

h t t p s://w w w.youtube.com/watch?v=AefXU4rr72o does work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AefXU4rr72o

Hmmm... the same linking looks like this on my forum:

I am not aware of using any mod for embedding YouTube videos.

Since SMF 2.0 out of the box does not have this functionality, you must be...

Plantje

Ah ok, then it must be the simple audio video embedder.
I have just updated it, but now it just posts the link :)

Illori

so post in the mods support topic so the author can assist you further.
