about creating a poll

Which of these is recommended to be selected per poll? The reason I asked is that just with this last poll admin making the poll has had to recreate the poll 3 times already, The members have voted but after about 6 the poll disallows voiting.

Result visibility:
Show the poll's results to anyone. [does this option mean results are seen prior to voting? We don't wish for them to vote with the leader of the "pack"]
  Only show the results after someone has voted. [Should this be the one chosen so all they do not see the winning result to influence their vote?]
  Only show the results after the poll has expired. [have never used this one]

If none of the above would make the members not be allowed to vote after "x" amount then any ideas what is happening and how to stop it.  This has never happened. Thanks.

The visibility options do mean what you think they mean - show results to anyone means anyone who can see the topic can view the results, and "show results after voting" will do that.

As for locking up voting, this isn't default - there is a "close poll after x days" but that's not set by default.

Yup, that is how we are doing it alright, however, this time it took it upon itself, 3 times he had to actually delete it after re-creating it fresh then wash, rinse and repeat again before it finally lets people vote.

Never seen that happen, and we actually run polls quite often on this site.
To investigate, it would be good to know exactly how the poll was setup. For example, how many days was it set up to run?

That should work, and should limit any user to voting only once,
while allowing anyone to see current poll results with or without voting.
Did anyone actually confirm voting was impossible after those 6 or so votes?
And if so, did anyone check to see if the person trying actually had the permission to vote?
And if so, were there any errors in the logs or anything else out of the ordinary apart from the obvious?
