Hi, how do I start a Board on Simple Machines Forum exactly?

So I've been reading around on this and other websites and trying to understand how to start a Board on SMF. Can someone please explain it to me in plain language? Do I have to download and then install it and that'll be it? Can I choose a site name for my board on SMF as I've seen other Forums that use SMF do? Please guide.

You need hosting with database and PHP support, and preferably a working domain name before you begin.
