Hey @GL700Wing - would it be relatively easy to not have the date/time show unless the topics are sorted by date?

Just curious.

Hey @Steve - Yep!  New version on the way with option to hide start date/time unless sorting topics by start date ...

Version 1.2 - 14-Nov-23
o Added option to hide the time when the 'Shorthand Date Display' option is enabled (ie, when 'Today' and/or 'Yesterday' are shown).
o As per Steve's request added option to hide start date/time unless sorting topics by date/time.
o Added support for an alternate text string to use instead of $txt['date']
(Note: Alternate text string name is $txt['tsdomi_date'] and it's in the Modifications language file).
o SMF 2.0: Fixed bug reported by FragaCampos that occurred when sorting by date and changing pages in boards with multiple topic pages.

@GL700Wing - I spoke too soon. Each time I access a board and each time I sort by date I get errors:

Same errors if I'm on Curve 2.

The error does not occur if I uncheck the 'Hide start date/time unless sorting topics by date/time.' box.

Version 1.3 - 15-Nov-23
o Fixed bug reported by Steve that occurred when the 'Hide start date/time unless sorting topics by date/time.'  option is enabled, a board was viewed for the first time and the first sort done was by topic start date.

Thanks a million, GL700Wing!
With these bug fixes, it's working flawlessly.  8)

Steve

Just curious @GL700Wing, why only the message index?

Can't it be the sort order for all pages in the index so that I don't have to resort each time I go to a topic and/or change pages in that topic when I'm reading it?

This is more of a wish on my wish list than a request. So, don't go trying to redo the mod.  :)

Sorry but I don't understand your question - if you want to always display the most recent messages at the top when a topic is displayed you can enable the Show most recent posts at the top. via the Look and Layout menu in your profile.

Arantor

I think what he's getting at is that the sort is done - but when he goes into a topic and back to the message index, it's no longer sorted that way?

(To be fair, none of the sorting options persist in this way. Start date isn't unique in that respect.)
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

Steve

What about if I'm looking at a multi-page topic, and I go to a different page in that same topic, I have to sort by Date again? For example, if I'm looking at page 2 of the topic and click page 5, why do I have to resort again?

Again, this is just a wishlist item. Not something you should spend any of your vacation time on.  ;D

Because it's for the list of topics, not the contents of a topic?

Not sure what pages of a topic have to do with it, tbh?

Hmm - will see what I can do later this year ...

I am on 2.1.4, had installed v1.1.1 and was fine.

Installed 1.1.3 and I now had the start date TWICE.

Deleted 1.1.3 and I had NO POSTS on any board.

Reinstalled 1.1.3 and I now have THREE start dates.

It appears the start date code gets appended each time, rather than seeing it's already present.

What file do I need to edit in order to remove the extra ' on ' start times?

Kindred

Yes, if you install multiple copies of a mod,it will often install multiples code lines.

You need to MANUALLY go through the install instructions and remove the duplicated lines

Just did that.  Finally figured out where they were located.  cpanel search feature is horrible, but that's beside the point.

Thank you for clarifying for me.
