Email notifications 2.1.4

I have set up a new forum today (clean install 2.1.4), the first thing I noticed was I wasn't receiving emails when new members sign up (I have registration set to Admin approval), but I did get a notification within the forum.

When I tried to activate an account I get an error 'Could not get mail server response codes'. I have double checked the email settings and they are correct. As things stand, I cannot receive email or send them from within the forum, but email works from within an external mail client.

Any ideas please?

That usually means the credentials are wrong.

You usually need to prefix the host with ssl://

I would try plain smtp.

I would also double check port, credentials, etc, with host.

That error usually means incorrect credentials.

Thanks, all settings checked with Ionos, they suggested I come here in case any ports were blocked by SMF

No ports blocked by SMF.

If you have the ssl:// specified, it's likely the ID or password
