When I downloaded and installed v.2.1.4 of SMF, I mistakenly thought that I had MySQL installed but learned that I have Microsoft SQL Server installed instead (What can I say, by brain is 83 yo).  I was able to add SMF Gallery Lite and even uploaded some images, but I ran into issues with file size.  I asked ChatGPT about the errors and learned that I should have installed SMF on MySQL.  Okay, that's why I installed it on a local server . . .  to test it and learn how to use it.

So, should I completely uninstall the 2.1.4 forum I have installed after removing MSSQL Server and implementing MySQL Server, then installing a fresh download of SMF 2.1.4?  I'm inclined to do so in order to have a 'clean' installation . . .   one that I haven't goobered up.  What would you do?

If I were to take that path, where can I find instructions for uninstalling the forum?

If the forum is working you don't need to uninstall anything.

Here is a guide on increasing upload limits the defaults are too https://www.smfhacks.com/index.php/topic,3498.0.html

I must disagree with @vbgamer45 on this. SMF is not designed to work with MSSQL. Even if it initially seems to be working, problems are inevitable.

Uninstalling is easy:

  • Delete the database you created.
  • Delete all the SMF files.

Then if you want to reinstall, you can simply run the installer again.
I promise you nothing.

I was thinking along the lines that he has both database systems. installed as there would be no way MSSQL would work with SMF @Sesquipedalian

I'm a bit confused about the state, too.

But either way, I'd delete db & files & start over.

Of course, the best thing about working on localhost is you can do whatever you want...

You are not limited to one instance of SMF.

It's easy to have many DBs, and many instances of SMF, each installed in different subfolders.  This makes it easy to test & compare different configurations.  (To keep mine straight I tend to give the DB & the subfolder the same name...  When I no longer need one, I drop the database & delete the corresponding subfolder.)
