I just signed up for SMF through Go Daddy. I am using the 1.1.4 version. I tried to install the ad mod through the administration download for this modification, it would not work. The reply said that either the version of SMF that I was using did not support the mod or the file was corrupt.

Can someone please help me get through this process of getting set up with the ad modification

To center the ads you can use the  center tags.

<center>The ad code here</center>

P.s. A friendly suggestion. Try to read through the posts in this topic before you ask as the chances are that your questions have been asked/answered before. That goes for any kind of questions. The search system is your best friend ;)

mmm, I would use:

<div align="center">stuff</div>

The <center> tag is not permitted XHTML.

Placing the ad codes between the center tags in the ad mod box works just fine

Of course it works fine. I said it's not valid XHTML by the W3C.

You of all people should know its a deprecated tag.

@ccbtimewiz, let us not turn this thread into one of those discussions, you of all people should know this or that.  The Poster asked how he/she could center the ads and I showed him/her that. He didn''t ask for a lecture on coding and such  ;). Me too by the way.

I had and have no intention what-so-ever to have this discussion settle out in such a manner that you have described. I am by no means lecturing his code, yet giving a positive alternate to using said code.

Since SMF follows the W3C standards of web site building, I'm quite convinced that users wish to remain keeping their site "clean" and "tidy", I provided an alternate method that produces the same effect in which is appropriate to those standards.

And on this word, I would agree that further discussion on this specific topic of code standards is no longer required.

Pretty easy question wasnt sure where else to put this, but I just installed this mod and it works fine on the core and classic themes which are based on the default, which my custom theme is also based on the default, but the themes do not come up. Just confused why it they wouldn't show, up now in the admin the link to the settins and add and ad are their, The theme using is Silent Wave, pm or respond. Thanks to anyone that helps

I searched this topic, I truly did, but I could not find an answer. If anyone can help me PLEASE quote this message in your reply so I know that you are replying to my question, not someone else's 5 pages prior.

Thus.

I use SMF 1.1.4. I installed the v2.3 Ad Management mod. "Ad Management" does not show up in the Admin tab under Configuration. There is an extra space there, but no clickable text and definitively nothing that reads "Ad Management"

I already tried to fix this by setting All permissions to writable, but there was no change. I uninstalled and reinstalled already.

Please help.

Cheers,

Victor

vmajor - what theme are you using and what language are you using?  (English and English-utf8 are different) and the mod only installs on default CORE theme.

The mod only installs on the default CORE theme, so if you are using a different theme, you will have to edit your theme for the mod to show up.  Use the package parser in my signature and follow the instructions for 'theme edits'.

Wow, speedy response! The theme is the default one. In fact I fixed the problem, the issue was lack of support for English UTF-8. I changed the language to English and now I can see the Ad Management. I created  two AdSense units... both a re blank, but I will give it some time before I start scratching my head again.

depending on where you want the ads to appear, make sure you have checked all the boxes you need to in the admin section.   For example if you want them to appear between two categories, enter the correct category id numbers eg 1,2.  If you want them to appear at the top of the board, you do something different, and so on.

Also try just putting in some regular text as a test, in case you have something wrong with your adsense code.

Hi,

I've been trying to work out how to embed my Google map on my forum for a while now, I know theres the Google member map mod but thats not quite what I want.

I thought I'd try and treat it like an ad so I installed the Ad Management mod and Yes, it works exactly how I wanted, apart from one thing. It shows the map twice.

When I add the code in the content box and click the box for 'Display ads on every page right below the menu' and then save, then it puts the 'ad' in twice.

Is this to do with me entering the Google Map code insted of an Advert code?

I'm on SMF 1.1.4 and using default theme

Hi,

Hi all, new girl here. Ummm, I have one question on this package. I know how to change the php lines, how to set permissions, how to do everything needed to install this,,, except one. Way at the bottom of the install docs it shows a bunch of Query stuff. I know nothing about that, not what it does or where it goes.

Can anyone explain that, or am I too over my head?  :-[

Bigguy

Can you post this query stuff. ??? Are you using a package parser to show you the edits. ???
