Easiest way to update a theme to current that is no longer in development?

I have a theme on my site that's been running for about 3 years. It worked flawlessly up until the latest update (2.14 -> 2.16)

Since updating the forum, a couple of things seem to be broken.

I've made a LOT of cosmetic changes to the theme over the years, but I don't recall changing anything too drastic.

I made a post in the support forum about the emoji "more" button in the quick reply edit box no longer working. I can't imagine that it would be a difficult fix to get that working again?

If you already have a topic open about your issue, please don't open another. You will just end up wasting time and effort, both your own and other people's.
I promise you nothing.

Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

OK, sorry.

The more I thought about this, the more it seems to be a theme question and not a forum support question.

If the problem lies with a particular theme that you have modified locally, you could try asking for help in the support topic for that particular theme. You can find the support topic for the theme in question inside the Theme Site Themes board, which is a sub-board of this board.

The original theme that I started with hasn't been in development for years. It was last updated in 2022. The author of the theme hasn't been on this forum in over a year.

I would actually like to know what process people use to keep themes up to date. I'll be nursing this theme along probably until my forum dies.

I assume that there is a process for that?

What theme are you using specifically?

The process of keeping it up to date really depends. Are you just trying to add the changes in the newest SMF patch? If so check the patch change notes. For example here - https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?action=patches;smf_version=2.1.4

If you want to update other things, you will need to know CSS and/or HTML depending on what you are trying to do.

I noticed that you are the only one who's updated your themes for 2.1.6  :D

The theme started out as Fusion (Fusion Theme Dark) but it's been changed to the point that the author probably wouldn't be able to tell that it started off as that theme. I would go so far as to say that my current theme is based very loosely on Fusion.

I've been trying to keep it up to date myself since it's no longer being worked on by the original author. This is the first time something broke with a forum update. The suggestion to go through the "patch change notes" was what solved that problem for me. I'm going to have to keep this in mind for future updates. I wasn't sure what you guys were doing to keep the themes up to date and man do you have a lot of them.  :o

I've meant to ask this question in the past, but since I didn't plan on working on any other themes, never thought it would be necessary.
