sha1 file. Can it be changed?

Is thier anything that i could use to replace the sha1 file found in the themes folder under default as it seems to be the source of alot of my problems on my forum?

Remembering passwords on my forums. It has been the source of alot of problems on my forums with passwords and trying to install things such as mkportal. I as well went to the link below to seek out some answers to see if any of the alternatives would work. MD4 and MD5?
