Hi,

We are planning to re-design a rather popular community site

So far our intention is to use mambo as the main front-end to handle news, etc and SMF for the forum. We also need a webmail application to offer free e-mail to the site's members (in a fashion similar to yahoo, hotmail, etc)

What we would like to have however is a common registration (at least) between the different applicatons.

We looked at hivemail, which is reasonably priced, but although they have some integration with vBulletinn and IPB, there is none for SMF :(

Any suggestions on alternate dependaple, open source or commercial webmail apps will be greatly appreciated.

As our main developer has left recently without being replaced yet .... also any offers on doing the integration for us will be considered eagerly.

thanks

Michael

I know that there are a few different implementations of this between Mambo and SMF, but many are still in alpha/beta. (there are a few, not just the two now most people know of.)

Interesting.  We would need to purchase HiveMail to develop an integration for it; have you posted anything on their forum about this?  What is thier policy on developing integrations?

If something could be worked out, you might be able to use HiveMail - assuming that's what you want.

Thanks for the response,

mambo: I am trying to monitor the development of the integration. I wish I could help with the code but I do not have sufficient knwledge for that. Actually the people at Hive mail said that they might also produce an integration with Mambo in the future!

Hivemail: Yes I did send them an e-mail to ask. I do not think they have any problems with the integration, since they told me to look at the existing ones and try to adapt them to SMF. Of course we will buy Hivemail.

Maybe, if you are interested in helping out, you could have a look at the existing Hivemail integrations and let me know if it possible to do the same for SMF and of course follow it through to the SMF Stable release.

We will also be willing to offer a reasonable fee for the work and offer the result back to the SMF community as a small contribution.

Hivemail seems to be easy to handle and customize. We are open to other suggestions though

Are these available for me to look at anywhere without purchasing Hivemail?

Yes! Definitately! :)

http://manual.hivemail.com/topic/integ

There you can find the scripts and instruction on the existing integrations.

In a second mail to Hivemail people, they responded that they would be willing to help, albeit in a "slow" fashion :(

In the meantime I keep my fingers crossed! Let me know if there is anything you need from me. And of course you can PM me anytime.

Thank again for your interest

Michael

Jay?

Hmm - I have looked at the mail package and would find it very useful in another project I'm about to get started in.  THis would be the icing on the cake.

Just wounder - not to get off topic - do you know of a spam and anti-virus plugin for Hivemail?

I am glad to see that someone else might find it useful as well :)

That would be our intention as well. We are considering to use spamassassin and possibly Dr Web antivirus that comes together with the Plesk CP of our server.

Maybe we should have a more extensive look at the hivemail forum or post this question there. I asume that these will work, now whether they funvtion seamlessly with Hive, I do not know ... yet! ;)

Jay?

Cool - I'll dig around too - I'm actually going to use it with WHM/CPanel - so spamassassin is easy and the exim has a built in anti-virus (however good that is).  Forgot all about using them :)

Jay?

Hey [Unknown] maybe this can be a "Charter Memember" type mod :)

I took a glance at the invision zip file, and its contents.

To what extent should the integration be made?  Does it use the forum's members and passwords?  Does it just tie the two together?  What are you looking to get from this?

-[Unknown]

Jay?

I would just be looking if you create a Forum Username/Password - that is the same to use for mail.  It would be easy to throw a link to the e-mail area within the template of a forum.

I'm not sure you would want to view the e-mail from within the forum or vice versa.

I would agree with Jay, that the minimum requirement would be to have a single registration and thereafter a single login for all apps (SMF, Hivemail & Mambo).

We do intend to have the apps working stand alone separately, so maybe something similar to the CPG  bridge will be functional?

Now, if anything else can be added to that, it will be welcomed!

[Unknown]

Are they at all interested in working with us, or....?

It would help to be able to test it live, but I might be able to get something mostly working without.

I think that they will not have any problem in at least facilitating your efforts.

However, we can purchase it and put it somewhere for you to test if you like.

Just let me know

Jay?

Anything new on this one?

I wondering the same think. We somehow went quite along the way. As soon as I get the word from anyone interested in doing it, I will get HiveMail and install it for development and testing.

I wish I could do more ...

[Unknown]

I'm afraid I haven't gotten to this yet; any response from HiveMail?

I'm afraid to ask you to purchase it because I'm not sure about my immediate availability... I've not forgotten, though...

-[Unknown]

Jay?

Thanks for the response - I should be getting a license on Thrusday for a new project I have decided to start up.  So I will have one.  I'll be more than happy to allow you to use it (it's attached to my IP) for development work if you wish, as the project will be basically on hold until I get this, or atleast the web mail part ;)

About the same applies here!

We will propably get it anyway and then wait for some form of integration, while we use the time to customize it and getting accustomed to it. Since Jay has already commited, I suppose we can wait a bit longer.

But do not forget guys to keep me posted as well!!!!

Really looking forward to this.  :)

let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

[Unknown]

Alright, I'll try to work on this tommorow if you can send me the proper information, Jay.

Thanks.
