Avatars have dissapeared

Yesterday, and seemingly out of the blue, all avatars ceased to be shown on one of my SMF forums.

The avatars are still in the attachments directory, and the attachments table still points the correct user to the correct avatar.

The problem is not in my paths/settings as nothing has changed there; i have also run repair_settings.php to double check this.

When I display a page and view source, the required code to display the avatar is there:

http://url_of_my_site.com/board/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=445;type=avatar

If i copy and paste this code to the browser, i get the following message:

The image "http://url_of_my_site.com/board/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=445;type=avatar" cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Nothing shows in the forum error log.

However, if i do the above for another SMF site I run, the avatar displays quite happily in the browser.

So, it seems that there is an error somewhere in the code that displays the image, rather than in paths/config/etc.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to how i can proceed to track down this error?

I don't see any avatar problem on both link.  I am using Maxthon (IE6 core) and no problem at all. Avatars displays properly except for oversize one of course.

You can see avatars on the ukbouldering.com site?

I can't see any, and some users have complained of the same thing.

I can only see avatars on the ukcaving.com site

The url: http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=445;type=avatar gives an error

But the url: http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=486;type=avatar shows the avatar

That sort of error would rule out a browser issue I would have thought?

Mmm wait, i can see the avatar using a different computer that is also running FF 2.0.7 - how could this be i wonder?

Perhaps a firewall/adblock is blocking something?

Yes, I can see all avatars. In fact, here's a picture.

Thanks for linking that JohnyB - the problem must be something to do with a local issue rather than a problem with the forum. Now i just need to work out what the hell it could be :)

I will update this topic when i find out what has caused this issue.

You are welcome Bork. I have no idea where the problem is. Could be your browser's options settings?

Well i disabled all Firefox extensions, restarted FF and all is ok.

Then I re-enabled all extensions, restarted and all is still ok - weird!

So i have no idea where this error came from but I think we can consider it solved.

Thanks again for your time JohnyB and I'll remember to rule out local problems before asking for support. What threw me was that other forum users had complained about the problem.
