How to add a black box using codes?

Hello everyone,

I want to know the basic codes for editing the template file. I want to create a black box using the catbg image in my theme. How do make it bigger to my desired size.

echo' <div="catbg" </div>';

This is the code I use. I want to know what codes I have to put inside this to make this black box bigger. I basically like to know the basic codes for smf template.

What is the code for creating a table, how do I specify the size extra. Thanks
