Continued problems in post box

Please, please give me a hand here. I run a support forum for Alz.caregivers and one of the services is that I daily find news on the topic and post brief excerpts in a news topic.

With the upgrade, I have the following consistent problems:
1) the text is "dirty" in that paragraph breaks are omitted and words are run together.
2) formatting the headline never works completely: most often the size does not take and the coding is evident in the post. (I format headers for color and size.)
Here is an illustration of trying to set a header in size 14 and color red:

New vaccines promised for Alzheimers.

(if it works this time, I plan to go to my closet and hang myself.  <g>) And it DID work but only after it posted with no formatting and all the tags at the end of the sentence. I redid it and it worked. BTW I am formatting AFTER writing the head.

Is this a bug or has something changed in formatting that I am not getting?

Arantor

So what version of SMF, what mods have you got installed and if you're using SMF 2 are you using WYSIWYG or regular formatting?

Frustrating as it will be for you, I am not sure. I had a friend install the update earlier this week and do not see where such a choice is made in the Admin. section.

There are known issues with the WYSIWYG editor, so I'm thinking it's almost certainly related to that.

So if I  turn off WYSIWYG will things work? Or do I just need to wait it out. And that is ok.

Norv

If you don't really need WYSIWYG, you might find useful to simply disable it, yes, and see if you still have the problem.

In case wrong display still happens, can you please make a screenshot with: the text in the box, for one, that is the bbc code and all, and the displayed text, afterwards, and attach them here.

I've had some more reports of the 1) problem mentioned in the OP.

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=251436.msg2382185#msg2382185

Couldn't find it on the bug tracker though.

Norv

It isn't tracked yet, or not by me, because I can't reproduce it as I understand it (not sure I fully understand it) on the latest svn at the time of writing.

Both "wysiwyg" and using normal view, this works: I set size to 14pt, and color to red, then write "New vaccines promised for Alzheimers", then press "Enter", reset size and color to defaults and continue with a little phrase just to see the difference. Then post.
I get the text written as it should be, with the second phrase on the next line. (now that may be less expected, perhaps at one "Enter" in WYSIWYG one expects more than just one "<br />" ?)

No I mean the consecutive words being stuck together after posting.

Sorry if i bump but is a seriuos problem, i had correct more than 100 post whit my hand for that problem.

i have to say that also the Wysiwyg embedded in smf give the same problem.

Thank you.

Norv

Thanks Ant, I wasn't aware of that report.
I was unable to reproduce this one too. Using normal reply and WYSIWYG, it worked. (as in the OP)
Using quick reply as oceano_bkk says, also worked. However, this is not WYSIWYG. (without the mod).

I wonder if it's actually some difference in the way SMF handles quick reply in RC2, that the mod doesn't expect.

Well he said he was getting it in the standard SMF wysiwyg as well. That implies it is a problem in the editor rather than the mod. The mod just echoes the editor to the quick reply box.

Norv

Then it might have been solved already, as I didn't get it in standard reply with WYSIWYG. If there are or seem to be some conditions under which it happens, it would be great to know.

Odd alright. I can't duplicate it in FF3.6 or IE7 after several attempts. As far as I can tell the Quick Reply mod is working with WYSIWYG, which means the WYSIWYG editor itself should be fine when not in the Quick Reply. I'm not getting any words being fused together or any other glitches. Formatting and all button functions seem fine. I'll see if I can get more details from this guy.

Hallo, i had report the problem, i give to Antechinus a link whit fresh install, no mod, I had change nothings, only activate the option for use the WYSIWYG.

The problem still there.

If you want to checl let me know il wil give you the link and access like admin so you can see.

Thank you

Antechinus

I've just done some testing and I can see the problem. It seems to be happening when text is copied directly from a web page.

Test posts are from here down: http://www.ariosdubai.it/Smf/index.php?topic=2.msg5#msg5

ETA: Was using FF3.5 for the test posts.

rufen

I have the same problem with pasted text from the web on both my forums.

Antechinus

We have fixed this in svn so it will be ok in the next release.

Say!

You're missing spaces and I'm picking them up in my newsletters!  I think the little packet carriers are delivering them to where they want them to go rather than where we want them to go.

(What do you mean...there aren't little packet carriers that move data from one place to another?  Someone told me there are spiders in there, so why couldn't there be other life forms that we don't know about?) ;D
