???   SMF validates as xhtml.

it does?? http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.simplemachines.org%2Fcommunity%2Findex.php%3Ftopic%3D370380.msg2912701

Checking this site isn't too good of an idea as it often runs with development code that might not be validated along with some of the site framework layers. Checking against a running 2.0 install I manage, it validates with no warnings or errors. I think it's safe to say that a vanilla install of SMF validates.

By the way, this site works fairly well on both my NOOKcolor (7in Android "tablet") and my Samsung Galaxy S phone (4in SAMOLED Android phone). I expect the iPhone works just as good. Windows Phone 7 might be a bit glitchy since the rendering engine is based on IE7, but I can't say for sure.

I was talking about mobile version as the topic says.

"works fairly well"

I know, I'm using it (well, not much choices... & dont want to pay tapatalk) with my Android. I just want an mobile version which can be used in m.example.com.

Arantor

Which mobile version? SMF comes with three.

www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?wap2

As I said yesterday:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/web/help/wml_closure.shtml

BBC decides to close it's WAP version because traffic is nowadays less than 1%. We are in 2011, everyone has smartphones and still no xhtml version in SMF. SMF once was top of the top, but now more like an old dinosaur.

With this pace we will have an xhtml version in 2016 and by that time xhtml is long gone and there is zhtml6.

WAP is dead, imode is used in Japan and propably dead too.

Arantor

Which is why you have WAP2...

Why not upgrade / modify the current wap/wap2/imode templates? I can't stop thinking that it is a matter of templating for the usage on the majority (if not all) of mobile devices.

Arantor

Because they need more a rewrite than an upgrade, having actually had to rework them myself not that long ago.

I see... Anyway, I am not that worry on that. New mobile devices now have better capabilities in viewing/browsing websites.

Ahh, I give up. No one takes me seriously about the subject.

I don't want SMF (and my site) to miss this mobile train that is leaving from the station soon. Mobile version should be number one thing to do after SMF 2.0 is ready.

I agree. At least for smart phones, this is important in our priorities post 2.0.
We are currently thinking at a friendly theme, officially developed for 2.0, and we'll see from there.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

I like Dragooon's SMF4Mobile theme, though it's not free.
