Update:
Another failed subscription with added www. in url.
List of Mods added.
Also this forum was a conversion from phpBB.

Just set up the core paid subscription for club membership and straight away trouble.

2 members made 1 time subscription payments through PayPal. I got a direct payment complete notification from PayPal for both and they are shown as completed payments in Paypal.

In the subscriptions section 1 person is shown as still pending.
The other person is not there at all.
It is odd that it shows the number '2' under 'Finished' subscriptions. There is now way to see what these '2' are - no links to follow for more information.
In the last few hours the 'Finished' subscriptions went up to 3. I guess this is from resending the IPNs from PayPal.
In the users profile subscriptions, 1 user is shown as pending - the one in the admin subscriptions panel.
Update:
The user with no record in admin subscriptions panel does have details in their profile page.
It shows as 'Edit subscription' for the 1 year option. Opening this it shows the subscription as finished. The end date is 2005 Jan.

Neither user group was updated.
No notification email received but set to send (I don't get new user registration notifications either).

Other than admin notifications all other messages seem to be sent - PM notifications, announce topic, forum email etc.

When I click modify for the pending subscription it show the start date as 2011 March 7. The end date is 2005. I saw some support emails about 'Finished' subscription problems about this date - don't know if that matters, or how to fix it.

Several hours ago I went back to PayPal to check the IPN history. There were no errors and it shows the 2 IPNs now being resent twice.

IPN is activated and the URL show in the SMF subscriptions settings was used:
http://outdoorclubjapan.com/events/subscriptions.php

I added the www. in case that made a difference but resending the IPN used the old setting. Don't know if this will make a difference with a new transaction.
Return IPN is now set to:
http://www.outdoorclubjapan.com/events/subscriptions.php

I went through the settings carefully so cannot see what the problem is. Settings pages are attached.
I couldn't find any reference to the subscriptions.php file in SMF error logs or the host error logs/php logs.
I ran the scheduled task for paid subscriptions but no change.

Any ideas?

BTW
Does the registration activation setting affect subscription?
It was set to admin approval but now immediate registration. I guess it shouldn't make any difference.

Bumpity bump... at least someone replied!

Adding the www. in the url didnt make much difference - paypal ipn did arrive and it was set to 2005 finished after someone just signed up march 9th 2011.

Having an automatic membership subscription was icing on the cake - only it doesn't work.

I wonder, when there are no replies, what does it mean?

1. Nobody knows, nobody cares?
2. I'm a complete jackass and not worth replying to such a stupid topic when the answer is so obvious?
3. Somebody has read it and is looking into this problem ...? Just that they think its better not to say anything and keep us dangling here at the bottom of the pile?

If this is a problem (a 'core feature', and it seems so from other topics), it would be nice just to hear that we are not ignored - something is happening, or it is noted. That way I know I'm not wasting my time and have to sit back and wait for a fix at a later date.

Or, I can get to work copying and modifying the 'Mark solved' button to a 'Mark unsolvable'  :)

It's almost certainly a bug, but it's one that the dev team aren't currently looking at because they can't seem to reproduce it...

Thanks for the info - makes a big difference knowing where I stand. It is affecting people though ...
I saw that someone suggested it was a server issue. I don't mind setting up a clean install and testing if that helps. I can test on Bluehost and Hostmonster and get as much information as I can about the php settings and other server settings. But there isn't much point if its only me.

So I guess its 'marked unsolved'.

Arantor

It's not only you, I know at least one other person who's reported it - except that no-one else can duplicate it...

OCJ

Well, there is certainly more than one other... from search it is apparent that quite a few have this problem. Guess a lot more who haven't reported it.

Arantor

No, it's not 'a lot more who haven't reported it', it's a lot more who haven't encountered it, including me and this site for two...

Well, just as a reminder, I myself am STILL having this problem. Had another one just this morning.

OCJ

After a few months Im now on 100% failure rate with paid subscriptions... all 2005. Some pending status is also variable and can change back to pending. Similar problen with 'finished' status which shows as finished in the list but active in the profile subscription page.

If people say it cant be reproduced they should try it on typical paid server plans (I guess most are using their own here). Most of the worlds websites probably reside on them ... Bluehost, Justhost, etc etc.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

I am on a "typical paid server plan", or to be more precise a low-end VPS plan, but have never had any trouble with Paypal, using Paypal IPN.
Not a single complaint from my users, and I've never caught a failed sub myself either.

Well, Im up to 100 plus subscriptions in since January/ February 2011 and not 1 sucessful so far.
All set to 2005 finished and one stubbornly set to pending with no link on the persons subscription page th 'accept it.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

Have the payments been processed OK though and you have received the money?

And have you set up your IPN settings in https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_profile-ipn-notify
and set your return url to /subscriptions.php ?

This has already been discussion above

Return IPN is now set to:
http://www.outdoorclubjapan.com/events/subscriptions.php

It obviously works as paypal is notifying SMF and it shows a subscription - but finished 2005.

To stop receiving IPNs permanently, click Turn Off IPN.

I'm still having the exact same problem, igirisjin, for the record. Updating to 2.0 didn't magically resolve the issue, as I was hoping it might. ;)

imno007

Well, I don't know what you guys did, if you did it, but somewhere along the lines, after one of the last couple of updates, I started noticing that the donation system is working properly again for me (knock on wood), with dates being correctly adjusted automatically. I don't recall seeing anything in the upgrade notes about it, but if you did it - thanks . 8)

OCJ

Lucky you ! Im still getting 100% failure rate (about 200 now) - all finished 2005 - every members subscription has to be reset manually before they can get access. Just did one yesterday.

Some suggested it was a server issue - maybe your server setting changed.

I wonder, Aleksi - what host provider are you using?

Possibly the host did change something but, if so, I've know idea what. I can't see any changes with anything, versions numbers (PHP, MySQL, etc.) look the same. You have my sympathy, because that was a long stretch for me: I was always glad to get a donation but always really annoyed to have to manually reset the dates, and the difficulty compounded every time someone donated with a different email and didn't bother to let me know who they were. I had to continually put up reminders for people to pm me with their transaction numbers. Good luck!

imno007

I asked my host about any recent upgrades. They told me they couldn't think of anything that would have been responsible for fixing this particular issue, but as to the upgrades themselves, I got this, somewhat vague, reply:

Quote...We have updated certain server software like zipdetails, openssl and some other PHP dependencies between 25th and 29th of this month....

Current PHP version is 5.3.4.

You didn't mention it, but I assume you're using the latest smf version....?

OCJ

Always had the latest versions as soon as available ... i guess if smf people here  cant 'reproduce' the problem it its probably cos they are running it on their own servers ... not like most websites out there.

i will test a clean install soon on bluehost/ dreamhost and see what happens. very unproductive running a site this way.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

Someone asked - I'm running a VPS on Layershift US. My subs have been working fine, just a few days ago I got my latest subscription and it went through without a problem.
