"Notify" to be replaced with "Subscribe"

Term "Notify" does not say much about this feature. Notify of what? Not many people use this feature as they do not know it means "Subscribe".

If indeed, it "subscribes" why not to call it "Subscribe" ?

Any opinions?

just....make a new button with "subscribe" written..and overwrite notify.gif.

No doubt that beginning from 1.1 product line
the "Notify" button
     should immediately display as "Subscribe"
for the subscribers to the included post
in the e-mail notification.

If to speak precisely
simultaneously with the including of the post
there are no more any notification about Replies -
Replies themselves instead.

Taking in account
that notification without the included post
  is a historical atavism,
the button could be renamed to "Subscribe"
for the ~noticed only~ (with excluded post) Users as well.
It is only their problem to select the subscribtion to atavism..

after the included post will win its _default_ value.

Subscribe means less to me, Subscribe to what? Notify seems like a better word to me.

Oldiesmann, Ben_S,

haven't you subscribed yet
to getting the included post
  into that former e-mail letter
   which was named 'notification'
    once upon a time..
in the old 1.0.X SMF versions ?

For me "notify" feels more like reverse than the excepted meaning, more like I would inform the rest on the board that I read the paper.

Edit: perhaps a better word is "Cover", because it's the logical meaning isn't it?

AzaToth...

no.. it's the other way around... the BOARD is notifying YOU that there is a new post in the topic (or board) that you are watching...

Notify is correctly used in this case, and, IMO is more effective (language-wise) than subscribe...  because it's not really a subscription... it's a notification.

Strange all the versions since this and still it says Notify, how do we change this in the new version 1.1.3 as there is no button to modify.

Kindred

why what wasn't adjusted?

No one here at SMF thought it needed to be adjusted. You're perfectly welcome top modify your own installation or to MAKE feature requests. However, that's no indication that the request will be accepted. (and in this case, it was not)
