I just installed SMF but with few hours after installation, am getting up to 2000 spam posts.

How can I stop these spam posts?

There are a number of options available to you.  Please read this for further information: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Spam_-_my_forum_is_flooded_with_spam,_what_can_I_do.

^^^ still working great here after years of use. Changing questions a few times a year.
Immense number of bot attempts stopped, only getting 2 or 3 human spammers pr year, quickly spotted and deleted.

In addition to the various ways offered to stop the spammers from registering in the first place:
Set your forum to All members have to be approved by you or someone on your team.  Never automatically approve new members.
In your admin menu:
Administration Center » Registration » Settings make sure you have selected Admin approval on the line for Method of registration employed for new members

I think the default for the forum is new members will be assigned to the group Newbie.  Make sure newbies don't have posting permission.  As you check them out and find they are okay, move them to the Member group that does have permission to post.

Always do a Google search of their IP.  See if it comes up in the spammers list
Always do a Google search of their e-mail address.  See if it comes up in a spammers list.

Better to run these checks first and keep them from posting than to spend all day deleting posts and profiles only to have them automatically register again and post more junk.

yes but given that most people can change their ip address an ip block/ban is useless and will slow down your forum over time.

I've had 1 -one- spam post during ten years with smf, that was in 2006 :O)

Just to say it's very possible to be 99.999999% spamfree. As to which method is preferred\needed, start implementing well proven methods and see how many\how much is needed.

Hello,

Deleting members and their posts will NOT STOP them from registering again and posting more spam.

Banning members will NOT STOP them from registering again and posting more spam.

Blocking IPs is not good because your are blocking potential REAL members and as Kindred said, people can change their IP address.

How to delete members AND their posts = Admin >> Members >> Members -> double-click on member's name and that member's profile opens >> Actions >> Delete this account, then you will see the Delete Member AND Posts screenshot I attached.

Anti-Spam
Admin >> Configuration >> Security and Moderation >> Anti Spam (from Security and Moderation menu) >> then you will see the Anti-Spam screenshot I attached.

Best Wishes,
Siirist

We have no issues with spammers.   We use Httpbl, Stop Forum Spam, Join Reason plus manual checks.

It does bother me that the "honeypot" approaches (Httpbl,  SFS) include ip tests.   But they seem to work.

Problem 1:  I have had several folks blocked due to ip checks who reached out via an email who I have had to add by hand.

Problem 2:  Many current active, valuable members are flagged as suspicious when viewed using the admin tools.

So, honeypots work, but misfire routinely.     Folks who really want to join must reach out to the webmaster.
