This mod adds a bbc tag (with a nice button in post window too) to insert YouTube video in your posts, it's safe and doesn't need you to enable flash bbc on your board.
- Why it's safe to use this bbc?
- Simple: the user cannot enter his own flash file as content, the bbc needs only the video ID and will complete the url itself, entering any type of url will not work.
Syntax: [youtube=width,height]videoID[/youtube]
Example: [youtube=425,350]-sDyVAUb8xE[/youtube]
Demo: http://devel.mangaitalia.it/devsmf/index.php?topic=3.0

thanks! great mod mate!
Excellent mod, great option to show these movies.
I like youtube, because a user can click a movie to start downloading, this will save bandwith for the user.

You are the second asking for 1.0.7 version, if you really want it i can arrange to have it ready in few time but without the button in the posting screen. You'll have just the tag available on your board. Is this ok?

If your theme doesn't have it, then edit the default theme one :)
P.S. have in mid that usually mods are tested and created only with default theme, so id you have another theme there are indeed needed mods.

There are no install notes because packages can be installed in the packages section of your admin panel.
Faster parsecode is needed in 1.0.7 because it really speeds the parsing and it simplifies the creation of custom bbcode, in 1.1 it's not needed because it's already in.
Sweet simply using the post.template from the default theme did the trick. I didnt even need to move it into the current theme directory.
Thanks again, awsome mod!!

Whit all those mods it's not strange you have that error, subs.php is heavy modified for sure, anyway if you attach your subs.php here i can see if i can find a way to make an "heavy modified subs.php" version should be made.
If you can't wait then install it manually.
Thank you.
Here is the subs.php file.
I haven't got the option to attatch yet as I think I am too low a member on here.
I have a link to my subs.php file on my Filefront hosting here instead: http://files.filefront.com/Subsphp/;5312256;;/fileinfo.html (http://files.filefront.com/Subsphp/;5312256;;/fileinfo.html)
Only way I could make it available for download. Hope that's ok.
Thanks. :)

Thanks, it was a lot helpful, i noticed that another mod modifies a line that the package searches to modify Subs.php . I now released a new version of the package to avoid this problem, it should now install successfully on any board that gave Subs.php error with 0.1 version :)
Download it on the mod page: http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=390

update: just tested the [youtube=425,350]-sDyVAUb8xE[/youtube] thing, and it works fine, so all thats happening is the gif isn't showing up.
I know it might seem inpatient, but does anybody know how i can fix it? the whole mod is working but i don't see the little button when i go to post, so nobody will know the code and that? thanks in advance.

You are probably using a theme that has it's custom post.template.php, so you have to manually edit this template and add the required lines. If this is not the case, but you are anyway not using the default theme, you should copy the youtube.gif in the images/bbc dir of your currente theme.
P.S. GoogleVideo mod it's waiting to be approved.
yeah i think it has its own template.php thing mate, what are the requested lines? oh by the way i really do like the mod 10/10 but right now because i dont see no button 9.9/10!

Have in mind mods are developed for the default theme, it's not guaranteed that any addon will work with other themes, and yes it's not a mod flaw if you cannot see the button.
The required lines for the default theme are in the package, open the xml and watch for them, anyway it's not guaranteed that them are ok for your theme.
please explain dude, i have no idea about SMF really? look for what? i know you say for me to keep in mind that mods are made for the default theme but asif anybody ever actually uses the default theme, its so plain. people should make a little tut with there mod on what scripts to put where to work on other themes, i've seen some people do it. but i may as well remove it as i cannot look for code i have no idea about.

This the line you have to search in post.template.php
'flash' => array('code' => 'flash', 'before' => '[flash=200,200]', 'after' => '[/flash]', 'description' => $txt[433]),
And this is what you have to add after that line:
'youtube' => array('code' => 'youtube', 'before' => '[youtube=425,350]', 'after' => '[/youtube]', 'description' => $txt['youtube']),
This is the line you have to add to your languages/Modifications.english.php
$txt['youtube'] = 'YouTube';
I can't really do more for you, we cannot make the mods compatible with every custom theme in the world, and it's unbelievable you ask the modders to do something to make them compatible.
If you are not able to customize your forum then try to ask for some free/paid help in this board: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=50.0
thanks mate and please dont get a grudge or something againsed me i'm just used to the mods that are out having some info on how to get them to work on other themes, again thank you!
also quickly i dont have a languages folder and that file, so ill try the first 2 things
Edit: thank you mate, its worked like a charm! now your mod is a 10/10 for me.

Usually you must wait 2/3 days, you'll have to add similar lines to your theme files. Anyway all the lines you need are in the .xml file.
WOW, youtube was going to be the next addition to my streaming 3 mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=121), which already have google video, wma, quicktime and real media streeaming, but now I don't have to do it.
I use 1.1R2, but the Youtube BBC only works when I have flash enabled.
Otherwise it merely shows a text link to the movie file.
When I re-enable flash, the youtube movie re-appears where the text link was.
The motivation for this was to allow youtube movies without enabling flash.
It doesn't really accomplish that, does it?

There's something wrong with your board, if you look at my test board: http://devel.mangaitalia.it/devsmf/index.php
I don't have flash enabled at all and so others that installed it.

no, it doesn't work, I have this one; FasterParsecode1-10_SMF1-0-6.zip (7KB)
is that ok?
The 1.0.7 it's not fully tested with older versions, you have 1.0.6 i cannot guaranteee it works, and also fort the future i'll support only 1.1
If you want i can give you my accountdates, so you can see if I have done everything allright

The problem is that you have smf 1.0.6 and i partially support only 1.0.7, also i really did 1.0.7 version a sa bonus, i can work only on latest version available bcause honestly i don't have the time to test on all versions.
no I have 1.0.7 \i jused a picture of another person ;)

But you have FasterParsecode1-10_SMF1-0-6.zip and i based my 1.0.7 version on faster parsecode for 1.0.7
It seems your version was 1.0.6 then updated to 1.0.7 with an addon, i really cannot predict how this can affect the mod. Anyway i did the mod in 5 mins and not tested it, 1.1 it's the only version fully tested that i can support.
why don't you guys just upgrade to 1.1 i did it just for this and the shoutbox mod....? it really isn't all that hard to upgrade at all and heaps more stuff gets supported.
Anyway you could make this work with only certain member groups through the permissions system. I really want it on my site but I have some people that would just spam it so I only want it available for admins or people that have donated.
Thanks for the mod

This will require the coding of a complete new mod, anyway it's an interesting request, maybe you should request for someone to make a BBCode permissions mod?

Do I have SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0 ?
Powered by SMF 1.0.7.
Does anyone know where to get Faster Parsecode 1.07? It's no longer available on the FasterParsecode Mod page. I was able to install 1.06, but I see that version won't work.
Great little mod and one that my members will utilise a lot... we are all big YouTube fans. :D
Everything went fine but I only get a white screen.
I run 1.1 RC2 and installed the .2 version???
Any ideas ????
you mean the video is just a white screen? make sure the video you put up is the correct url you can preview before you post, also sometimes the page doesn't load the video so it stays as a white screen.
Love the mods, and was going to play with it to embed the imageshack slideshows they now do:
'content' => '<embed src="http://imageshack.us/slideshow/smilplayer.swf" width="$2" height="$3" name="smilplayer" id="smilplayer" bgcolor="394551" menu="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="id=$1"/>',
I did that, however the issue is, imageshack gives an id querystring like this :
"img101/6379/1155237055h64.smil"
If they place just that between the brackets, you would need to take the portion to the first slash (as highlighted) to the embed URL, like this:
http://img101.imageshack.us/slideshow/smilplayer.swf
I can take the php page url from the service, and make it create the url:
$string = "http://img83.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img83/3086/1155190909dfq.smil";
list ($var1, $var2) = explode("player.php?id=", $string);
echo $var1 . "smilplayer.swf?id=" . $var2;
But I am not sure how to put that into the content part of the mod.
I would really appreciate if you had any suggestions :)
Smooth MOD
Thanks a LOT Yakuza 8)
Can you make it work for 1.1 rc 3. It doesnt work prolly. It doesnt show the video.
I have written a conversion for it, but I don't exactly know if and how I should go about submitting it as I didn't write the original script. If anyone in the know is willing to tell me what to do about my 1.1 RC3 Conversion please let me know.
I need a new version so I'll be happy to try it as soon as you get the green light.
I just installed this with 1.1 RC 3 and I don't get the video in the profile either, just the link to the YouTube Video.
Awesome Mod, I would be really thankful if it could be upgraded to 1.1 RC3.
:)
Cheers!
just get a white screen too.
Google is not working either. player comes up but the video never plays.
This mod is not yet approved by the Mod staff, but for those who want to give the mod a try, here is currently unapproved mod page for my conversion that works with SMF 1.1 RC3. It is pretty much identical to Yakuza's mod with the exception of the edits required to make it work with RC3. It's worked on at least three people's boards, so I am thinking it should go well on most if not all 1.1 RC3 boards. But, again, let me stress, this is currently unapproved, and is provided "AS IS", though I will attempt to walk you through if something goes horribly wrong.
EDIT: There is an error that occurs if the youtube tag is the first thing in the post. Would like to fix that first.
wow cant wait to try this
nope most users AFAIK can't download until its approved by mods.
Hmm... I've made this one and the Googlevideo mod "installable" on 1.1 RC3 and both of them have the same problem where if the tag is the first thing in the post the video and the rest of the post will not appear, and the post box will return an error. I or the mod author will have to look at that, but if it gets approved keep that in mind there must be a line break or text before the tag, or it causes the post template to return an error saying the message body was not filled out.
hi!
THis mod is really good, but as many ppl, I don't have deafult theme. (BlackTed) So, I want to manually install, but how¿? That¡s the question!
The Post.Template.php is on BlackTed "Display.Template", and I'm using RC3.
Thanks for advance
I did a manual install on my heavy modded board and it works fine. Thanks for a great mod, my members will be happy about it. ;)
Can this be updated for RC3?
Yakuza hasnt been on for nearly a month but this is what you need to change.
unzip the package and open youtube_0.2.xml
Open it with notepad or something
Find
<search position="before"><![CDATA[
array(
'tag' => 'hr',
'type' => 'closed',
'content' => '<hr style="clear: both;" />',
'block_level' => true,
),
]]></search>
Replace with
<search position="before"><![CDATA[
array(
'tag' => 'hr',
'type' => 'closed',
'content' => '<hr />',
'block_level' => true,
),
]]></search>
Then go to file -> save and replace the old youtube_0.2.xml with the new edited youtube_0.2.xml
and it should install perfectly through the package manager
thanks a lot dude i wil give this a try
yep thats the change that has to be made to get it to work with 1.1 RC3

use alan S's a couple of posts down
Has the syntax changed ? Because even after i installed the new one, the old posts which had youtube links in it, don´t work. I only see the syntax there. I also dont have the Youtube button anymore in the editor when I write a new post, it was there before. Now its gone.
nope, I've got that exact one working on my test board
Working posts and all
Anything else works, and I installed my new board just, but it doesn´t work. LInks that worked before fine. So, what now ?
Try this one.

It was

This Mod is awesome!!
I Don´t think that I´ll uninstall it so soon ;D
This mod adds no functionality to SMF: there is no need to install it to embed YouTube.
Just use turn on the flash function for SMF.
The YouTube vids are flash movies. So take the code, strip away everything other than the url, and embed as flash. I've done this to dozens of YouTube movies for my site.

I don´t agree...
1.security reason - This MOD dont have the security issue of a swf movie posted maybe with some javascript inside it...
2.easy, easy posting - I think posting a video from youtube which hardly will be offline it´s amazing, a lot of people contribute with joking, beraking news etc... Flash only will be more specific stuff and could get a lot of broken and useless sources in topics in a short time...
Thanks for the MOD developer !!
And I hope that google dont f#$ck this great video site

Its a bit hard for beginner but you need to learn it sooner or later as you need to manually install all the mods in a custom theme.
Here is the link on how to make mods work with other themes : http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=34526.0

Where do you get your failure ?? What file ?
If it is only modifications.english.php the only thing you will be missing is the alt text for the image in the bbc code area. Not a big deal.
If you like I can try to mod the file for you so it'll be done but honestly if you load the images to all your themes I don't think it'll hurt not being there.

You just need to upload the image (youtube bbc button) to your current themes images directory with the other bbc buttons. Then the button should show just fine.

Well it could be a few things... The best thing to do would be to go into the modify section of one of the non-working you tube posts with the white box in it and copy the code that is in there and post it up here so I can see what is actually being rendered by the tag. It is probably something simple as this mod is very basic.

thanks gargoyle. i've uploaded the image but it's not showing through. how or where do i check the source coding which is linking to the image? (i know in HTML it would be the <img src> code but i don't know what it would be in SMF coding)

Quote[youtube=425,350]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nae4OV2lJ1M"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nae4OV2lJ1M" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/youtube]
:)
Alright the BBC code is not passing correctly at all...
I will need to see your subs.php file as well as your post.template.php file from the theme you are using. I have to see if the code is there and if it is whether or not it is done right.
What did you say happened again ?? Upgrade or something like that to cause this issue ? Just trying to figure things out in my head.
The image should be placed in your current theme directory.. So it would be yourthemename/images/bbc/youtube.gif If that is where the image is then you could try a refreash. If that still does not do it then I will have to look at your files to see the code.

okay. i've added all the coding from the "how to make mods work with themes" instructions but i'm still getting only the large white box, (no video or audio), and the you tube icon only shows in the default theme. i added the youtube gif to my theme's images file but what code do i add to link to it and what file does that info go in? any other suggestions i should try? i'm using 1.1 rc2.
thank you.
I've got a white box too on my SMF 1.1.1 final forum using the last .03 post a couple of posts back. Icon is there no installation errors and nothing in my error log. ???

i've had the large white box from the beginning. what i tried to do was uninstall the mod because i wanted to install the .3 version but i received an [un] installation error that i was not getting when i first installed. i'm not going to uninstall now so i don't know if that error makes a difference or not. after i installed the you tube mod, i deleted some other mods that i really didn't need so is that what is causing the error?
here is the post.template file:
Quote);
$context['bbc_tags'][] = array(
'flash' => array('code' => 'flash', 'before' => 'http://',%20'after'%20=>%20'', 'description' => $txt[433]),
'youtube' => array('code' => 'youtube', 'before' => '[youtube=425,350]', 'after' => '[/youtube]', 'description' => $txt['youtube']),
'stream' => array('code' => 'stream', 'before' => '[stream=200,200]', 'after' => '[/stream]', 'description' => $txt['stream']),
'real' => array('code' => 'real', 'before' => '[real=200,200]', 'after' => '[/real]', 'description' => $txt['real']),
'quick' => array('code' => 'quick', 'before' => '[quick=200,200]', 'after' => '[/quick]', 'description' => $txt['quick']),
'img' => array('code' => 'img', 'before' => '(http://',%20'after'%20=>%20')', 'description' => $txt[435]),
'url' => array('code' => 'url', 'before' => '', 'after' => ' (http://',%20'after'%20=>%20')', 'description' => $txt[257]),
and from the subs.php:
Quote),
array(
'tag' => 'hr',
'type' => 'closed',
'content' => '<hr style="clear: both;" />',
'block_level' => true,
),
array(
'tag' => 'youtube',
'type' => 'unparsed_commas_content',
'test' => '\d+,\d+\]',
'content' => '<object width="$2" height="$3"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1" ></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="$2" height="$3"></embed></object>',
'validate' => create_function('&$tag, &$data, $disabled', '
if (isset($disabled[\'url\']))
$tag[\'content\'] = \'$1\';'),
'disabled_content' => '<a href="$1" target="_blank">$1</a>',
),
just from looking at the subs.php code below, shouldn't the param name and embed src be something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v/$1
instead of this:
http://www.youtube.com/v/$1
I was just watching this video from youtube.com right now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9-ctuBFAUg

well, i made the change in the coding but i'm still getting the white box. :(
Subs should look like this according to the mod file
array(
'tag' => 'youtube',
'type' => 'unparsed_commas_content',
'test' => '\d+,\d+\]',
'content' => '<object width="$2" height="$3"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1" ></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="$2" height="$3"></embed></object>',
'validate' => create_function('&$tag, &$data, $disabled', '
if (isset($disabled[\'url\']))
$tag[\'content\'] = \'$1\';'),
'disabled_content' => '<a href="$1" target="_blank">$1</a>',
),
Post template like this according to the mod file...
'youtube' => array('code' => 'youtube', 'before' => '[youtube=425,350]', 'after' => '[/youtube]', 'description' => $txt['youtube']),
If your code is correct it should work... If it does not at this point I am not sure why. I do not know what changes the 1.1.1 did but I doubt it has much to do with this.
I am running 1.1.1 on one of my sites and the youtube mod works fine.

well, thanks for the suggestions. my coding matches what you posted but it's still not showing video - even on the default theme.

I HAVE ONLY TESTED THIS ON 1.1 FINAL!! No other version may work!!
It also works on 1.1.1
Or not... I am running 1.1.1 and this is what I get:
"Installations actions for "YouTube BBCode by Yakuza":
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
Yep, I'm getting the same error.
It installed, but when I apply it, I get that error, and I'm using the default theme (http://chasingculture.com/liberty/index.php).
Thanks in advance.

Did the youtube mod ever work for you ??
Now I am going to attach one for 1.1.1 ---- I HAVE NOT TESTED IT VERY MUCH SO INSTALL AT OWN RISK!! It should work fine though...

no, it never did but i've got the you tube gif showing now and when i preview a post i get a message that says "fetching preview" but still nothing shows up. so, i don't know what the deal is.
wow - i feel so silly right about now. the following is from the very first post in this thread and explains the reason i was getting the large white box (and probably the reason anybody else is getting it)...

Link to Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=390)
This mod adds a bbc tag (with a nice button in post window too) to insert YouTube video in your posts, it's safe and doesn't need you to enable flash bbc on your board.
- Why it's safe to use this bbc?
- Simple: the user cannot enter his own flash file as content, the bbc needs only the video ID and will complete the url itself, entering any type of url will not work.
Syntax: [youtube=width,height]videoID[/youtube]
Example: [youtube=425,350]-sDyVAUb8xE[/youtube]
Demo: http://devel.mangaitalia.it/devsmf/index.php?topic=3.0
Languages supported: English - Italian
instead of pasting all of that <embed>.....<param> coding between the youtube tags, all that needs to be posted is the video ID, i.e. sDyVAUb8xE.
:-[ why didn't someone just tell me that instead of letting me go on for days - LOL.
pfftt no button in the default theme at all.
my luck
Demo: http://devel.mangaitalia.it/devsmf/index.php?topic=3.0

The version 0.2 didn't work, it give me an error saying the file is corrupted or wrong smf version!! I use the default theme without any mod.
After that i try the 0.4 and everything works great.

can someone do one for rc3 version
Actually, this mod installs fine if you do a manual install. I just installed it on my smf 1.1 instance.
Thanks!
aww manual, if i had time i would, i'll try to do it tomorrow then
Wow! Great addition to SMF. Nice work.
karl - I tried your version (the 26 - youtube 1.2.zip) one but I don't see the little YouTube symbols in the posting area icons. Any ideas???
are you using the default skin?
No.... I'm using 1.1.1, and a Tiny Portal theme. Will it only work with the default? I have functionality of it - just no YouTube icons showing in the post area. Where does the youtube gif get upoladed to? What directory?
Fixed it - just had to put the youtube.gif file also in the right theme under images/bbc
So, this mod is SMF 1.1.1 compatible ?

It would appear as if the mod's author is no longer active. Have you tried my overhaul of the mod?
YouTube BBC Tag (XHTML Compliant) (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=139271.0)
new question.
i recently upgraded to 1.1.2 and reinstalled the streaming mod but now i have 2 you tube buttons/gifs, one for 'you tube' the other for 'yt'. 'yt' is the code on the latest mod, so how do i delete the other button? i deleted the 'youtube.gif' but don't know where to go to delete the extra button that is showing.
also, the latest mod has google video instructions and even though the google button/feature is viewable & usuable in my default mod, it's not showing in the board theme i'm using. any advice? (i modified my theme's languages/modifications.english file).
thanks.
Would be great if Yakuza could pump out a new version of this mod for 1.1.2. ;)
i fixed all of my above problems so that post can be disregarded .... if anyone is still monitoring this thread in the first place. ;)

This topic in its entirety is being ignored by the mod author.

apparently i need to manual install it, but my theme doesnt have a Post.template.php (as indicated below). I'm using RC2 with TP 0.86 ENTERPRISE TP theme....
</operation>
</file>
<file name="$themedir/Post.template.php">
<operation>
<search position="before"><![CDATA[
'flash' => array('code' => 'flash', 'before' => '[flash=200,200]', 'after' => '[/flash]', 'description' => $txt[433]),
]]></search>
<add><![CDATA[
'youtube' => array('code' => 'youtube', 'before' => '[youtube=425,350]', 'after' => '[/youtube]', 'description' => $txt['youtube']),
If your theme doesn't have it, then edit the default theme one :)
Ok, so if I my custom them doesn't have the post.template.php, then I need to edit the default them. But edit what? Can someone shed some lights? Thank you :)
Ok, I just figured it out. Works great! :D
For those of you that are running custom themes with or without TP, using this addon is no problem at all:
Here is what you do:
-download the addon and install it using your forum admin's package manager.
-The installation will install everything making the script usable.. EXCEPT... it put the YouTube BBC image into your default theme instead. So all you have to do is make a copy of the YouTube.gif, upload it into your custom theme (the one that you're using) /image/BBC folder.
That's all :)
What about making mod compatible with 1.1.3. ???
just use this one , it's better http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=139271.0
