As many of you have probably noticed, we've been running SMF 1.1 Beta 2 for the past few days live on this site. It is with great excitement to let all of you know that we have now released this beta to Charter Members just one and a half months after the release of Beta 1.
Below is a list of the larger changes in this release: (most of them were smaller, but sum up to more...)
- Added additional wireless functionality and some autodetection
- Attachment thumbnails can now be expanded inline
- Added function for reporting personal messages to administrators
- Added interface for setting to count child posts in board index
- Fixed problem with quick login not hashing passwords correctly
- Fixed many issues with labelling and message counts in the personal messaging center
- Fixed issues with week numbering on the calendar
- Fixed broken link in the smiley management area
Thank you for your continued support,
The Simple Machines Team
GREAT release (I love the thumbnails thing)
thanks for all the effort :)
I've not installed it on my forum yet, but I've got it ready for when I do, I'm glad to be a charter member, great work to the team. Keep it up ::thumbs up::
I haven't installed it yet, I'm still making a few changes to some of the files although I'm sure this version will be great :) Reading the change log shows there's some good changes/bug fixes.

I am glad to see it has been released. Funny, in my head I was just thinking when I thought Beta 2 would be released and I guessed in about a week. Fast release. :P
Hello,
Question, for those of us that are not Charter Members ( yet but soon hehehe), is there a list of changes, or additions that will be included when its released.?
I read what was above , is that the full list ?
I have mods like many others probably do and if
any are to be included etc. Might be helpful to know
even if its a far off plan.
Thank You.

Each change is carefully documented and will be included in the download package. Just like the current 1.0.x version, 1.1 will contain a changelog.txt
(the amount of documented changes since 1.0.3 is near a thousand lines, so it's detailed enough to give you an idea of what has changed ;))
Great to see this one released already to the charter members. Now time to upgrade my test forum at http://miraenda.com/ to see what happens on it. :)

OH ya. I am sorry for disturbing you guys. Actually I am uploading new SMF in my server. I may need help after few minutes.

Sorry, but it relies on a Turkish translator to translate them for us. Have you asked in the Turkish support board?
Turkish translator isnt CM, so he cant translate it http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=7735.0
Also, my forum is now running it - http://miraenda.com/
It has a theme picker at the top to see different themes using SMF and how they work using 1.1 Beta 2. One theme doesn't work, though, that I have in the picker--Simplicity. I just have it there to show it doesn't work (because it is my test forum and I test stuff there).
Upgraded web hosting uk (http://www.uk-web-space-hosting.co.uk/forum)
Got to admit, the product has always been so superb that I upgrade to my main site as soon as an update is announced (since 2003)
I don't recommend this to others as one day I'll get bitten as beta means beta.
Anyway, thanks to the dev team for continuing to surpass their levels of excellence on a release by release basis.

Ah, who wants to belong to a group where you can't speak the truth? :D

It appears TauOnline has upgraded, everything seems to be working fine at the moment :P
It should be fairly stable really, a few people have been running cvs copies for a while.
Updated two forums with no problem. :)
I hope this is released soon!
It is released. Beta 2 never goes to publick.
I have installed it in a test forum. I can say than in quite a few ways it makes the 1.03 seem the beta version.
Some commands that didn' t work properly work in 1.1 like the backup.
I enjoyed very much the administrator' s option to add HTML. Tables are a piece of cake now in posts. SMF' s editor is better that most in this case, at least someone can make a table but if it' s big it' s a trouble. I had tried Hoteditor but it' s quite buggy. As I have to make announcements and give results of contests, this option is very helpful.
As a major upgrade it needs the language files for Greek so it will remain just for testing to the moment.

why isn't it free ???

SMF is free, although if you become a charter member (Which voluntarily costs money) then you get access to versions that others won't get. You can download SMF 1.0.3 for free, however this version is only available as part of being a charter member.
And to add to what Tau Online said, version 1.1 WILL come out to everyone eventually, but during the beta periods Charter Members get exclusive access for testing and the like.

Why do people get annoying about when SMF will be released?
Why don't you just wait for the announcement that is commonly send by Owdy or somebody else of the Staff?
Just wait. Be patient. Right?
Right! :)
I'm not a common poster, as you can see I only have 32 (with this message) posts, at SM Community Forum but I read some comments and threads and some of the normal members (like me) are so annoying...
Just because, I try to get my own solutions for my problems (trying to solve them) instead of asking here, you know?
I try to solve it reading here with the wisdom of the Support staff and, of course and nevertheless, the wise [Unknown].
Anyway... I don't want to deviate the topic... Just wait for the Public release instead of being annoying.
liking the new 1.1 beta 2, great work to the SMF team, my mate has it on his forum that im an admin on
That we do. 1.1 Beta 2 is great.
QuoteWhy do people get annoying about when SMF will be released?
Because they love the product!
Everytime someone asks "when, when, when..." , they're really saying "I'm so excited about this software, I'm just busting to install the new version on my forum".
It's like waiting for Christmas morning when you're five years old. It just can't come soon enough. ;D
So, davo88, you're an interpreter now...
I think there's a diference between being annoying and being excited... and it's HUGE.
If you're excited, calm down. If you're annoying, shut up. :)

You could always install apache under windows...
@Surfy: the forum here works on SMF 1.1 b2 as well, so you could have a sneak preview here! :D
Edit: perhaps I have an additional function for SMF? I think it would be nice if the colors of the 'today' block in the Calendar don't have to be editted in PHP, but can be editted in the CSS? I think that would be a nice feature for the people who aren't as brilliant with PHP as we are...

The default templates have changed, of course. Most old themes will work alright, but modifications may be needed.

well, we add the + about 2 weeks after the previous beta to distinguish it it from the last. It could mean it is one week away, it could mean 6 months - all it actually means is it's been at least a week since the last release :P

I'm guessing it'll be more than three weeks until Beta 3 is released.. <I have always been rubbish with guessing, and so by saying the above I'm hoping Beta 3 will actually be here in less than three weeks> See there's logic in my stupidness! :P
I say we should fly in the face of convention and call it Beta 10++ or something for the next one. Maybe, even give it a cool codename like Shark Attack

Yes. Beta 3 has all the new features 1.1 will be getting, next are the RC releases which will be mainly bug fixes.

It's a candidate for release. If they [SMF] decided that a RC had no bugs in at all, or was stable enough, they would release that version, or one very similar to it. Releases go through beta stages firstly to make sure that there are no big bugs and to introduce new features, and then when the obvious bugs are gone the release goes into RC stage, where any remaining bugs are fixed before making the version a final release.. or at least that's my take on it.
When will SMF 1.1 Beta 3 by releasd

I also wanna see the stable or a production release of version 1.1.
I don't feel comfort yet to pay such much money only to become a test-pilot ? But of course I wanna support this great project, but not to become a test-pilot for something which should be free for everyone to try out.
Anyway, are you never going to release any time plans ? It would be very useful for many websites which need to plan the future upgradings.
Thanks for a good product :)

Why don't u release the beta 3 version for public as a PR with the condition,

I have the feeling that beta 3 is already stable enough.

Hello,
I kind of felt the same way when paying for a charter membership, although just because it says Beta doesn't mean the version is unstable or something. I have found that even 1.1 Beta 1 was stable, as was the beta versions of 1.0. If you want to become a charter membership although don't want to be a test pilot, my honest advice would be to go for it :) Since being a charter member I have only run beta versions for my forum software, although I have found that the betas are as stable as the final release of 1.0.

SMF 1.1 Public Beta 3 will be released soon...possibly within the next few days.
