Search not working!

SMF 1.1.2, default options for search function (simple search, with full text index, weigths not changed).
When someone do a search, real results (highlighted posts) are mixed between a large amount of wrong results.
If you want to see by yourself: http://foro.dcristo.org/index.php?action=search (look for "animal", for example)

What´s happening? How to solve?

Thanks!!

Oldiesmann

I've seen this before, but was never able to figure out what was causing this. I'll ask Compuart to look at this since he's about the only one who's an expert on the search system (it's pretty complex).

Can I ask a question - was this a fresh install or an upgrade?

Was an upgrade from 1.1RC3

Thanks - I don't have an answer for you right now (and I don't think I am qualified to even attempt to fix it) but... I had noticed a topic about this not too long ago where some team members appear watching it. I'll let 'em know.

Workaround fix: Deleting content of search log tables makes search work again. Seems that tables accumulate garbage in time, and "reseting" them it´s a solution.
Anyway, I still want to discover and apply a better solution :)

It doesn't seem to be working 100% correctly here at SMF either. When I search on "calendar" (scope is 'Community'), I one page of get hits from 2004 and 2005 - but nothing current. See the thread below to see numerous (current) hits for the word "calendar":

Psst: I'm not pressing for a fix, but I'd like to know that someone is aware of this issue....

KGIII

We are aware of some issues with the search functionality and while I am certainly not skilled enough to fix them I am capable of pointing the problems out to those who can fix 'em and have done so. No ETA on any changes at this time.

Any news about a final solution for search problems?

Thanks!

tensop

I have something similar happening with my search -  http://forum.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?action=search

Basicly, if you search for something such as "AFM" "distributor" or almost anything it will churn out pages and pages of junk, with a few good ones mixed in with the rest.. the most accurate results are usually right on the last page. no matter what mode the index is in(none/fulltext/custom) it churns out corrupted results, if you tick search topics only then it's fine

SleePy

I have seen this and there are a few ways to fix this.

One is to try an older version of Search.php
Another is to add a query in the Search.php that empties the search temp tables and let them be recreated before each search.

To me the best method would be to add that query to search.php ... Anyway what and where do we add this to the file. Also how does this work exactly... Does it reset as soon as any of the search buttons are used.

Bithunter or anybody else, do you still need help with this?
Did you look at the link tensop posted?

We  moved to a new host and problem seems solved.
I don't know what's the difference between actual and former host.

Thanks!

Glad you got it resolved. Thanks for posting you were able to find a solution even if it was by moving to a different host!
