Yes im feelin' with you.... the Joomla-guys are really dumbasses..... unbeliveable what comes in their heads to interpret the GPL in such a fcking way.... and this after such a long time, where nobody care'd about it....
Then the other simmilar thing with the commercial Comp./Plug./modules, as they had removed the "rider"
Really unbeliveable, and such a thing after the split-off from Mambo... i still cant belive it.
Im so pissed-off about all that things happen right know...... i cant even put that in Words....sorry

Please do not redistribute.  Not only is that a violation of the Joomla interpretation of the GPL, but also a violation of the SMF license.

OOOPS

OK...

I´M goona try to find other way to

Hope Joomla can get thier ish together fast. They were the best CMS, but now they suck with all this crap. Why not let people make some money from thier products? It's insanity! What made Joomla the best was all the 3rd party stuff.

stvbiograz

Yup, another thing that bothers me, are they now just enforcing the GPL or did they create a new interpretation of their code for 1.5 (beta)?

Chipfryer

Erm ok? So I take it  SMF Bridge 1.1.7 is no longer available owing to the above? I wish there was a homer smacking his own face icon here.

stvbiograz

So the only conclusion I draw on this is that I'm going to replace smf with something else.
GPL and OSS don't mix, and thats the result. So I'm not blaming joomla for this :-).

Kindred

GPL can co-exist quite nicely with ANY other type of license. It is joomla's interpretation of the GPL that is causing the issue here...

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Ok. So if someone offers to make you an admin on their site so you can install a previously downloaded copy you have, would this be in violation?

I do understand the issues raised but then I don't. There are more people dying each year because people cannot decide on a course to take so this is really both petty and annoying frankly.

I think its fairly obvious that 'Joomla' has chosen a path and fair dos to them they have their rights too. What I don't think is fair is that people having problems at the moment are well and truly scuppered in every sense and are looking at other avenues as a direct result, I am one of them.

Perhaps persuasion is on both and all parties to mend whatever is broken.

After all this whatever it is? Serves no purpose other than to fracture both if not all communities. GPL GNU and everyone who works for it.

Linux is out there in commercial versions now but with 3rd party conversions for using MS rubbish.

I'm thinking if they can sort it out, so can others too.

Like I said it isn't life threatening, just annoying, folks need to get on board is all

Sorry for ranting, best.

I'm yet to read a link provided above, however my comment here would be to express my disappointment.

Two years ago I had a choice between brand new Joomla and Mambo.  I chose Joomla, as I thought that theirs was a genuine concern and commitment to both Open Source AND concept of 'communities'...  Linking Joomla to SMF was essential to me as I had already a running SMF forum.

Even though software was free it took lots of my time and energy (which is worth something) to learn Joomla...  now two years later because Joomla chose to change their interpretation of the license I'm put in a position to start from scratch again.  I find it sad and not very professional and certainly shows me that Joomla's commitment to 'communities' is not worth much...

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."
