SMF Version: SMF 1.1.3
This might be a really stupid question. But when I try installing new smileys by uploading them from my hdd, I get :

QuoteThe following smiley directories are not writable...

When I upload the bunch into a directory on the server and try importing, I get :
QuoteUnable to import smiley set. Either the directory is invalid or cannot be accessed.

Can somebody please tell me as to what I am doing wrong or what I should do so that the smileys will upload properly?

Sorry for the trouble... >_<

Chmodd the ''Smileys'' directory to 777 and see if that would help

How do I do that?

I'm sorry if it's a dumb question, but I've always been an 'end user' of forums only, so I really have no idea as to what cdmodd is... >_<

Log in to your ftp client, hoover over the ''smileys'' directory, right click and go to Properties, CHMOD, or Permissions,(it depends on what ftp client you use) and then type in the number 777

Just tried... I'm still getting the same errors... >_<

For the second part you mentioned about importing after uploading them, what do you mean by that? If you successfully uploaded them (which sounds like it), you shouldn't need to import anymore. Just go to your forum -> Admin -> Smileys and Message Icons -> Smiley Sets tab and give it a name. Then select the folder where you uploaded your smileys too (yes, they should be in their own folder, create one for it first and move the smileys there). You may check the box to make it your default smiley set and then hit Save changes.
