time to panic

I just uploaded all of the files to my server using my FTP program.  I ran the install.php and then tried to log on to my server using my FTP program, to delete the install program.  I get a "530 login failure" message.  Also, I cannot login to my forum as an administrator.  I am in double trouble--can't access my server and can't login as administrator.
Any advice would be appreciated?

No need to panic at all. Can you provide us a screen shot or a link to your forum?

trihokie

I hesitated to do this since I still have the install.php on my server.  I hope you are not a "bad guy":

Your forum loads fine to me. You can remove the link again. Did you try to install smf via webinstall?

Thanks for the 530 login failure info.  I am currently bouncing between this forum and my email program.  I am pursuing the 530 login issue with my server's help desk via email.  Is there any reason that I cannot log in as my forum administrator?

Try to delete the cookies and the temporary internet files and see if that does the trick

Whats the exact thing that happens when you login? White screen? Wrong password?

"Whats the exact thing that happens when you login? White screen? Wrong password?"

On the screen that asks for my password, I type in my password and press "login".  The page then just reloads and the same password request screen is there.  The lower left corner of my browser shows "done".

I tried logging in on another computer and got the white screen.

Seen the fact that it is a very newly installed forum, why don''t you re-install it again from the begining

trihokie

I tried running the install again using the same values as before and here is what I get:

Delete the database you have now and create a new one. Delete the smf files as well and install a fresh copy.

"Delete the database you have now and create a new one. Delete the smf files as well and install a fresh copy."

That takes me back to my ongoing second problem--I cannot log onto my web server since running the install.php

Since I cannot logon to my server I cannot delete the old files.  I can't do anything with my website and I can't do anything with my forum.

By not being able to log in to your server, I assume that you mean you can not access your files through the ftp client, right? Can you log in to the CP of your host?

trihokie

"By not being able to log in to your server, I assume that you mean you can not access your files through the ftp client, right? Can you log in to the CP of your host?"

That is correct.  In between checking this forum and emails from my server's help desk, I downloaded a copy of Putty and tried to access my web server using that tool.  I still cannot access my server.  Since I have never used Putty before, I don't know if I am having trouble with the program or the same old login problems.

I am going bald pulling my hair out...

babjusi

I am not sure I understood you. What do you mean by ''Putty''?
Can you access the control panel of your host? If you can, you can manage the files in your server space through the ''File Manager''.

You can set another ftp account as well from the CP.

trihokie

"What do you mean by "Putty".
Putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html [nofollow]) was recommended by my server to do, probably, what you are saying.  I am still having login issues with that program.  Is there anyway the install.php corrupted my passwords?  I can't even access my account at my server to check my account info and web stats.
Thanks for your patience,
Barry

babjusi

I don''t see how running the install.php file would change your passwords or corrupt them. Anyway, my advise to you would be to contact your host and tell them about your problem.
