Extended versatility for mini-profile

I would like to see the mini-profile, or side-profile if you wish (is there some kind of common name for the profile shown when people post?  :-\) being a lot more versatile. At the moment, you get very little freedom as to where you want to place every seperate line and object. For instance, I have several usergroups on my forum, some of them being "Admin" "Developer" and "Rank X".To get what I wanted, I had to download the multiple stars mod, so that I could show all of the rankimages together, not just admin. Still, all of the images just stack up under eachother, while the names are stacked above. I would like to see each name right over their rank-image, not to mention that I might want to not show the usegroup name at all, just the image (I guess this could be done by not typing in anything for that usegroup, but that makes it confusing if you have many groups like that).

I'd like to be able to place any object in the profile, anywhere I want. Say, I want the avatars to be displayed completely at the bottom, with the name right over it. That kind of freedom. Also, I would like to easily decide which kinds of custom titles,
as well as standard boxes (like msn, country, age, time of registration), I can put into the side-profile, some of which should be optionable and put there only if the user wishes to.

When it comes to the positioning, this should probably be just the one same default for all, set by the admin, or else it could get messy.

Unfortunately adding settings for which order things are set becomes very tricky as it's not easy to do it without a fair amount of processing hence increasing page load times (Bad). Whereas editing the template - whilst a little more tricky - does so without slowing things down.

SMF 2.0 will allow you to turn on and off common fields on the mini-profile (And profile generally) such as posts, icq, website etc. 2.0 will also allow you to decide how to display custom profile fields within reason.
I'm only a half geek really...

- Ok, sounds fair enough.

How about features like what the multiple stars mod adds though. Will that be in-the-box or will I have to download a mod for that again? I just think making it a default would be better and easier for most members, seeing as the way it is now isn't the most logical one in my opinion (as insinuated in the first paragraph in my first post), but it could become that with the options the multiple stars mod adds, plus some additional tweaking (putting the names over the image).

when 2.0 comes along, depend on the architecture, almost ALL the mods will need to be updated (some requiring minimal changes, others requiring complete re-coding and alot inbetween)

- Yes, I know. My question was, whether or not 2.0 will already have the functionality the multiple stars mod currently offers, as a default, or if I will have to look for an updated/similar mod yet again when 2.0 is released.

It just doesn't make the way it is now! :D Just look at Grudge's miniprofile. It says:
1) Developer
2) Simple Machines Hero
3) and bang, there's the developer group again, just in pictureform this time, and two lines under the developer status in pure writing.

So I beg you, please satisfy my undying urge for logic :P

from all the 2.0 posts i've read, i don't think theres any specific information on it as yet.

I suppose you may have to wait until it gets released to charter members to find out.
