I' m newbie and if i try this , it would be the first mod for me.
Can you just tell me the steps to do this or any other modification?

SMF provides extensive documentation on this question and a vast number of other questions...please check the documentation first and you will find most, if not all, of the information you need will be there waiting for you to use it.

In this particular case please see the following page and the pages linked to by it:

Update to add SMF 1.1.3 compatibility

why doesnt my package manager in 1.1.4 show me [Apply]   all I see is
and [delete]
TrueSatan

You seem to be in rather a muddle. It looks as though you have upgraded from an earlier version of SMF to 1.1.4

Is this mod already installed in your forum? Your report suggests that it may be.

If you installed it under SMF 1.1.3 (say) and the mod was not compatible with versions higher than 1.1.3 then when you upgraded to 1.1.4 the forum will have recognised that the uninstall routine for the mod was not rated for 1.1.4 and ceased to show it as a result.

I've decided to make the mod able to work with any SMF version between 1.1.1 and 1.1.99

If you had a previous version installed

Please use ftp to go to your forum root>Packages

Upload the attached new package...it is an upgrade of the mod to add compatibility with SMF1.1.1 to SMF 1.1.99

Please go to the installed.list and check to find any line referring to this mod...It will read:

Add PM Info To header (v1.1)|^|AddPMToHeader1.1.zip|^|4fit?:AddPMInfoToheader|^|1.1

or

Add PM Info To header (v1.1)|^|AddPMToHeader1.0.zip|^|4fit?:AddPMInfoToheader|^|1.0

Please edit it to read:

Add PM Info To header (v1.1)|^|AddPMToHeader1_2.zip|^|4fit?:AddPMInfoToheader|^|1_2

This will save you having to uninstall the old version of the mod.

New users

Please install as normal

because you need to update the mod.

in packageinfo.xml the smf version number should be written.

falguni1

this is updated version use this.

TrueSatan

Please don't post updated versions...SMF staff have requested that this not be done if it is merely a matter of SMF version changes (yes I know I did it too but I hadn't been told at the time!)

Members should be advised to use version emulate instead (and rather than editing the package themselves.)

...you can use it on newer SMF versions at your own risk by using version emulate:

Put ;emulate_version=1.1.1 at the end of the Package Manager URL

The way emulate version works is that you go to the SMF mods site and find the page for the mod you wish to use...or go to the first post in the support topic for it here where a link will be found. From that page you will find the last SMF version that the mod supports. This mod supports SMF 1.1.1 thus that is the last version in this instance. You would then add  &emulate_version=1.1.1 to the end of the package manager url in your forum. By this we mean use the ACP>Packages>Download browse to the package and then add the &emulate_version=1.1.1 to the URL prior to downloading the package into your forum.

falguni1

I didnot understand.

also the mod works fine and installs well only the users cant uninstall it so it is necessary to update the version to uninstall it.

TrueSatan

No...uninstall can also use version emulate.

Didn't read this through, so sorry if this has been asked already, but why was this ever left out? I mean why there has to be a mod for this, when it used to be default...?

I'm not sure I understood you correctly, but what I was curious to know was

Quote from: 4fit? on January 11, 2007, 08:12:07 PM
Adds PM info, similar to 1.0x versions, to the header area.  Ex:  "You have 5 messages, 3 are new".

Why this line does not appear in later releases, but has to be added as a mod.

Just curious, since I've always liked this function....

Some people like additional lines such as that, some don't. Unmodified installations should be a basic system without frills as the frills can be added later by use of mods and/or edits so leaving that function out was simply a sensible development followed by a mod to add it if members chose so to do.
