Hi guys,

I have uploaded different icons to replace the blue diamonds that show new posts and that's worked fine. (Noone is more suprised than me about that, ha.  Thanks George.)

There is one problem.
Where it shows the icons near the bottom of the board to say what they mean...ie new posts and no new posts it still shows the old diamonds.  How can I change that too.

Thanks. :)

You need to create new files for those, and name them new_none.gif and new_some.gif and upload them.

Hi Amacythe,

I just tried  that and it didn't work.

Now I have on.gif   off.gif   new_none.gif    new_some.gif

Would it be because two say on off and the other two say none some?

Amacythe

You need to replace the current new_none and new_some files.  Right click on your board and select properties.  Get the current location of those two graphics and upload to overwrite them.

I don't even see the legend on your board, but on mine the images are in themes/name of the theme/images/english

dilaca

I found the graphics in  themes/classic/images/english

It added the .gif extension when I uploaded so it became .gif.gif  so i renamed the originals to new_some files without the extension.

They have uploaded now and show on the board in the correct place but the words New Posts and No New Posts aren't there to say what the icons mean.

Can someone please tell me how to add the text to go with them.  Otherwise I can just delete the icons,  they are fairly self explanatory anyway.

Thanks. :)

You merely need a graphics editing program, if you're desperate, you could use paint, but there are others that are much better.  If you can wait till next week, when I get my own computer back, I can do it for you, but there are many here that could probably do it more quickly.  Just let me know.

Cypher7

have you removed the text from beside the images that said "no new posts" etc!?

if so, if you hover over the image it should still say, "No New Posts" anyway...  But then again, most people don't do that!

Do you want text added to the image itself?

I could do it for ya if you wanted.... or wait till Amacythe gets her PC back!! ;)

Amacythe

I intended to create the .gif with the text included... but alas... Monday at the soonest, maybe Tuesday :(

I still have that email, sorry.

Haha no need to be sorry unknown.  I've actually learnt how to do something for myself. :)

Thanks for the offers to add the text to the graphics for me.  I'd really appreciate if someone would be kind enough to do it.  There's certainly no hurry though.

Thanks all you kind peoples. :)

The icons have been done now thanks very much thesquadbay.  I want to give my site a facelift so might get back to you in the near future.
Thank you. :)

Rosy I have a question.  I want to replace the new post and no new post icons (I did it with YaBBSE).  I see you have but how did you do it?  With YaBBSE there was a javascript thing that accomplished this.

Hi Raven,

I'm not the best person to ask advice, ha.

All I did was follow the instructions given by the kind people in this thread.

I made the new files for them, and named them new_none.gif and new_some.gif and uploaded them.

themes/name of the theme/images/english

Amacythe was a wonderful help to me, so maybe if you have problems you could ask her or one of the other marvelous support people who are always so willing to help out.

Amacythe

There are actually four files you need to upload.  on.gif, off.gif, new_some.gif and new_none.gif

Just over write the ones you are currently using.

^Raven^

Not to steal the thread but they have to go into the themes/theme name/images/english folder right?

What do the on and off graphics do?  With YaBBSE I know I only needed the 2.  Are the two I have all I need or do I need more?

I'm just doublechcking on the location the graphics have to go because David (y'know big boss project manager guy) handles all this stuff for me and I try to make his job as easy as possible.  Its nice being friendly with the boss (I work with him at Boardnation) but I don't like to overly burden him.

I thank everyone for the help so far.  Aside from having those four graphics is there anything else I need to do or will those graphics handle everything?  I apologize for being somewhat of an idiot with SMF.  I don't really know PHP and I'm getting accustomed to all the features of SMF.  I'm kinda trailblazing SMF for the staff at Boardnation to bring us up to speed for when all our customers get it.  This way I completely know how something works and how to get it to work thus allowing me to help others when they ask the same questions as I.

on and off.gif are the icons that show in the index next to the boards, these go in the theme/images folder

new_some and new_none.gif are the legend at the bottom of your index that explain what the other two mean and would go in the /theme/images/language folder.

[Unknown]

There may also be an on2.gif, depending on your theme, which is a "halfway" image.
