Lost unread posts since last visit.

Several members in my forum are having problems with:

"Show unread posts since last visit" and " Show new replies to your posts "

...and one of the messages to me read:

"Hey Blue it did it to me again... I just came back after being busy for the most of the afternoon and the web said there were 7 unread topics. I read 2 of them and posted in them and then the other 5 were no longer showing. Has anyone else seen this happen?"


Any ideas how to correct this?

Any errors in the error log, any thing else happening?

Mods?  Any more info?

Only error i have at the moment is this one as i deleted them earlier.  I guess im going to have to wait another day or so.

I can explain that. LOL.   My attachments folder became corrupted when i switched hosts/servers.

Have you tried fixing your attachments folder with repair_settings.php? http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663

Does this issue occur for you or just seemingly certain people?

3 members called my attention about losing the unread topics.


Now...the attachments,im attempting to upload a new folder from the old cPanel as we speak.

...and yes,i did use the repair_settings but nothing.

Im giving this a try again.

I have seen this before but my god i cannot find it lol....where is this again?

...also....its been 2 days since i erased the error log and still no errors on this issue.





btw....my attachment issue is resolved.  I was using a faulty filezilla. I ended up dloading a diff ftp client from cnet.com and was able to upload the attachment folder now.

Enable local storage of cookies -> Unchecked
Use subdomain independent cookies -> Checked
Use database driven sessions -> Checked

Are you sure your members didn't log out or close the browser when they had that unread topic issue? If they did log out, that would make all the topics read for them. This is so because it shows all the topics unread since your last visit and not overall. Just want to be sure that wasn't the case

Members are not logging out.  They claim that when the read a "unread topics" and post go back to read the other "unread topics"....there gone.

Try setting the first one to Unchecked and the second option to Checked instead. Ask them to logout and clear their cookies. Then try again to see if it happens.

Do you experience this yourself? If so, give the above a try and see if it works.
