When using internet explorer I cannot utilize the middle button on my mouse when it is hovering over either message body text or a signature.  I thought this was quite weird but hopefully someone can help.  This was using the default theme.

edit: It happens on this community too...

but why use IE in first place?

I stopped optimizing for IE, sry

Vhexor

Because...

It's integrated in my OS
It allows me to use Yahoo! toolbar
I've had few problems with it

Well you could install this toolbar inside firefox .) ?

Vhexor

Because it's not compatible with firefox, but that's not the point of this thread.  Let's try to stay on topic and not turn this into a firefox vs. ie battle...

You should probably report the IE bug to Microsoft then.

I'm not too familiar with how the SMF template is coded, so I wouldn't want to run up to microsoft and say "my mouse button doesn't work, fix it...".  Maybe If I knew what the root of the problem was I could tell ms about it, but at this point it has not been explained.  What is special about these parts of the theme that makes this not work?

Feel free to explain to them that:

When a block-level element has the css property "overflow" set to "auto" then, whether it has scrollbars or not, any autoscroll functionality, arrow keys, and similar do not scroll the entire content.  Because of the nature and purpose of this property, scrolling should work fine when "auto" behaves like "show" or "hide".

works fine for me in Moz/opera/IE 6 with a "microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0" scrolling and dragging the page by holding it down as well.

Your mouse must be on the fritz.

I think he means clicking (and holding in) the mouse wheel, and dragging the mouse down to scroll the page, and not just rolling the wheel. If you click and hold it on the posts (or sigs) it doesn't scroll when you move the mouse.

Doesn't work for me in IE, works ok in Firefox. I'm no expert.. but I think it's something to do with IE trying to scroll the post text rather then the page.

But to be fair, this is the only software that I've seen it happen in... (sorry!)

Funny finding this topic.  I had just mentioned this exact problem to [Unknown] less than a week ago.  I am also using IE (sue me :P ) It only happens when I attempt to click within the actual post text or within sig text, but between the post text and the sig or outside of the post box everything is normal.

This is a bug in IE.  If you don't like it, you can use the classic theme.  What you lose is with that theme, long links or sections of code will make the entire screen scroll to the right.

The functionality that prevents one post from ruining the whole batch of eggs is very badly supported by Internet Explorer.  JavaScript is used to make the solution work *almost* up to the proper standards, but nothing (that I know of) can be done about the scrolling problem.  It's just one or the other.

Personally, I prefer to use Firefox... but even if I used Internet Explorer, I'd prefer the no-scrolling to the screen-ruining.

While it's not to hard to get over the scrolling problem, If I were to shut the overflow option off in css and enable the option in SMF to cut off words that are longer than a certian length, would that work for signatures too?

It would, but not too-wide images, or code sections that would scroll off the page.  Personally, I can't stand it when that happens even worse than the scrolling thing.

But, yes, as I said... the classic theme works without the overflow stuff, and functions fine.

I've already adjusted and just don't use the middle button except outside the post area.  I just think this is odd as it hasn't occurred anywhere other than in the post and sig text on SMF boards.

That's the only place this functionality is used; it's also used in the news box, where you should experience the same thing.  You don't experience this on many other sites simply because most avoid this functionality - although I do believe Invision began using it after we did (in places.)

I hadn't checked the news box but it seems to work just fine there, even the fader.
