Which portal?

Hey!
Ive been using SMF for ages now and love it and really don't want to use any other forum software with a portal or CMS since I have alot of members on the forum now and they all like SMF as well.

My question is, which CMS/Portal should I use.

I would really like to use the SMF database to allow people to be 'authors' on the site so they can add things to my site (outwith the forum) such as reviews and things like that.
Ive been told Wordpress wont allow for multiple authors so what else is out there?

I would like to be able to customise the CMS so it looks like the design I have created rather than me having to design around a CMS.

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

TinyPortal is the one that is well known and well supported.

And does it allow for multiple authors?

tinyPortal is a portal add-on to SMF.

If you're looking for reviews, articles, etc, then you probably want a CMS, not a portal...  I'd suggets mambo or e107 which both have good bridges with SMF.

ok thanks, that solves that issue :) I will look at some other CMS rather than portals. I want to get the write one before I start to spend too much time modifying something which just isnt going to cut it.

Ive been recommended e107 which should do the job, has anyone managed to keep their current users and posts when implementing e107 on to their website?

Im guessing that if I backup the database with all the posts and users, install SMF and then E107 or visa versa, then restore the database all the posts and users should come back?

ummmm....   why do you need to backup/reinstall SMF?

don't you already have SMF installed?

If so, then you just need to install e107 and the bridge.  The bridge makes no changes to the SMF installation.

Owain, TinyPortal has article functions and everything I think you want. It's like a CMS in SMF. View this: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?page=roadmap

I have MKPortal with my SMF setup and it works great!  I did have to get a little assist but it was not a "nightmare" at least not for me.
