Copyright visibility

Hi,
I was questioned today by a former member of the SMF staff about my forums copyright notice. They claimed that I didn't have one!? I did, it was just slightly obscured as it was originally coded for a white background and when I changed to a tinted background it made the copyright notice slightly (but not much) more difficult to see. Unfortunately my MSN conversation with the person got cut off so I wasn't able to figure out if they were even looking the correct site or not.

I immediately changed the colouring to a slightly (but not much) darker colouring, which I was planning to do anyway as I didn't like it the way it was.

Anyhows ... can some of you take a look at my forum (still under construction) and let me know if the copyright notice is prominent enough? I assumed it would be, but then I assumed it was okay before, so I thought I'd better check before upsetting the SMF community.

thanks :)

I wouldnt say that was 'prominent' at all lol.  It's really is too small to read if that's what you mean

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

That's just damn near impossible to read. :D

I don't think so you are even allowed to make the copyright "hard" to see. But how did you made it hard to see anyway?

ryanhellyer

Ah, LOL, I've figured it out!

I Firefox set to a minimum font size, so the font appears as I intended it to. ie: the same size as here on simplemachines.org, but in IE7 and probably other browsers, it's nearly impossible to see.

I was truly baffled by why this person was so concerned at my copyright notice. It all makes sense now!

Thanks for taking a look for me :)

You can get rid of it entirely with CSS, but you shouldn't as it's nice to promote SMF as much as possible - plus it's against the SMF copyright rules. By controlling the CSS, you can manipulate it to look however you want, change font size, colour etc.

Yeah same here.

Anybody got a magnifying glass? It takes blowing up the page about 300x to make the copyright the correct size.

I have a specific setting in Firefox which limits the font size from dropping below a certain size. Can't remember how I set that, and am guessing it's not a common setting then.

ryanhellyer

It should now look the same to the rest of you as it did all along for me ... http://pixopoint.com/forum/index.php

I also noticed that the site is totally munted in IE7, so I'd better fix that up before it goes live!

Thanks for taking a look everyone :) I couldn't figure out what the problem was for the life of me until quiteperplexed mentioned the size problem.

Eliana Tamerin

That's way better.

Glad to hear it's looking proper for you now :)

I try to promote SMF as much as possible, so was a tad perturbed when questioned about my copyright notice being missing.

I do wish the copyright notice wasn't worded the way it is though. I'd prefer to display the message across my entire site rather than just the forum. But the way it is worded would make my site look like it is copyright to SMF which is obviously not the case and SMF isn't powering the whole thing, WordPress is powering it as well, so I'd need the SMF copyright, plus WordPress thrown in there too which would make my footer look ugly - too many long winded copyright notices.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

Yeah, now it looks better here as well. :)

You could try adding "Forums" right before the copyright call like:

"Forums ", site_copyright
