WP 2.5 <-> SMF 1.1.4 bridge and spaces in usernames

those guys patched a smf-wp bridge so that it works with wp 2.5:

the only problem is, that word press users with whitespaces in their wp username ("Test Tester") can't login to smf.

is this a basic problem with smf (usernames with spaces) or is it a problem of this bridge?
