My fourm is acting all wierd and I can not seam to upgrade it to 1.5

I have no mods installed.

Is there a way of installing a fresh version and still retaining all the posts and users from the old install?

Whats the actual problem?

An easy way would be to use the large upgrade package and upload all files

Before you uninstall, go to Admin Centre -> Forum Maintenance -> back up your database.
*Make sure you have access to your phpmyadmin from your server this will enable you to go there to import your database later.

Uninstall your SMF.
Install the latest version of SMF. 1.1.5
Go to phpMyAdmin Import your database (sometimes you may encounter error msg that there is database problem, read the message, post the message to the forum if you are not code savvy, get help)

*If the import is a smooth process then voila you have your forum back with all the previous data.

Hope this help. I went through this before.

When i try to upgrade i get this error

QuoteThe upgrader found some old or outdated files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package.

I downloaded "smf_1-1-5_upgrade.zip", unziped it into a temp dir (retaining all subdirs) then uploaded it onto the sever.. overwriting all existing files. Then checked that all the chamods were correct (based on this information - http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=5).... and then used web browser to upgrade, php

---------edit
oh i also put the forum in maintenance mode before i ran the upgrade.php

so i though... mabey just do a fresh install of 1.5 and then import the database?

Do i just back up the database or tick "save table structure" and when importing with phpmyadmin do i click "drop existing tables"?

I spoke to a guy who told me there was some strange bug in the update.php that only appears sometimes...

he told me to go to admin panel and click on support, then click the more info button to see the file list and check that there where no red items in the list.

after that as there were no database changes in the upgrade as long as I uploaded the entire contents of the LARGE UPDATE overwriting all files then the fourm was in fact updated.

Please let me know if this info is wrong.

Yes, save table structure to your desktop of any folder.

In phpmyadmin, "IMPORT" the table structure, it will read the zip file automatically and will prompt you if the import is successful or not. If not they will tell you what's wrong.

If error message occur during your import: [If there is a coding errors, do this:]
Unzip your table structure. Look at the code using the notepad.
Correct the errors in the code that was indicated in the error message.
Save the changes. Zip it up and reimport.

I hope this help.
