The development has been stopped for the Simple Machines Joomla! bridge. When you use the Bridge you can still use it but distribution of the bridge is illegal.

When you use the Bridge 1.1.7 this bridge will not work with SMF 2.0 and Joomla! 1.5*

For more info please search the forums  O:)

So does that download work with 1.5 or no! and is it legal? I see a lot of GPL talk going back and forth.  I read some posts that say its ok cuz of this, and other posts that its not to use....?? I see its been discontinued blah blah, but  hey......if it works it works, as long the blame can't be put on you guys here @ SMF.

I personally have a bad site situation with someone changing my forums to vbulletin b'cuz of this smf/joomla GPL situation-without my approval.  SMF worked perfectly for me without any problems, Kindred has been a great help for us at the site (and the forums here) and i could never thank him enuff.   :D

I've been reading many of the post for the past 1.5 hours and looking at "now" dead links and un-replied posts on other sites.....This is confusing :-\

So presently i have jack'ed up db's, a forum i dont like or trust and a site thats been offline for far too long. If anyone can point me in the proper direction PLEASE REPLY!

Just to clarify the license situation.

Joomla's interpretation of the GPL forced the hand for mod-makers, to either make their mods (which included our SMF/Joomla! bridge) GPL or stop distributing. Since GPL is incompatible with SMF's own license, SMF chose to stop distributing.

Now, if a bridge is built that does not contain any SMF files, then it would not break the license and can be distributed. That's what omidkosari linked you to.

Otherwise, you are welcome to build an SMF/Joomla bridge that will make changes to SMF's files, but you wouldn't be able to distribute it. The only licensing problem comes when you distribute it, so that means you're free to make anything on your own site without breaking a license.

Simply put, if you hired someone to make or made your own SMF 2.0/Joomla 1.5 bridge for your own site, that would not be breaking any license. Only if you started handing it out would you need to be concerned about licenses.

I'm pretty sure I've understood this, Orstio please correct me if I'm wrong.
