Looks good. going to wait until they get it workin for single login etc.....

???

How many login you think mkportal has?

Mkportal is fully integrated with SMF it use the users tables db of the board the session of the board ecc...

hmm. gonna check that out today.  I tried to sign up for the SMF portal. Then tried to log into MKPORTAL. two different logins.  then I realized the demo was differnt site than the MK PORTAL main. HAHA.  I LOVE IT! THANKS!

trenchteam

I've been testing the portal system all day. I must say I am definately happy.  I love the intergration and the flexibiliity.  BYE BYE MAMBO! You have made me a CONVERT! THANKS ALOT!

FaSan

Yes. I think MKPortal is the flexibiity solution for the good integration with SMF.

I'm happy  8)

One question. I would like to get rid of all the boxes at the top of the forum such as key Stats, user info, and news box.  I also wanted to get rid of the line of buttons, so it looks more integrated. How do I do this? ;D

bloc

It would mean adjusting the theme files I think....I thought of doing it with Helios, but kept it because there are some parts that dont show up in the blocks. Like "new members for approval" and "forum in maintenace".

trenchteam

Can someone point me to the lines I need to remove.  ;)

LMAO of course it isn't SMF. If it was I would use Enigma in a heartbeat. You will not find a portal IMO that compares to it. I would definately not be looking at this one if it WAS an SMF portal. Anyways, after looking closer at this portal it does work on a root directory it is just not explained very good in their poor documentation. Secondly this portal doesn't allow you to set who sees each block. Very bad idea. Anyways read my post next time before telling me I am wrong. It was simply stated most portals are like this so I showed you one that isn't and that blows away all others that I seen for YaBB.

I made a new site and it uses SMF. I need a good portal. This portal really has the potential to be good but I see two problems that will prevent me from using this one right now.

1.) No block permissions. This is a basic and necessary thing.
2.) Support at their site so far has been unresponsive even on a basic question. The admins can answer other questions just not mine. If I had asked a tough question I could understand but it was basic and just simply ignored. Bad bad service.

The support team at www.lunabyte.com is awesome. Hell they were even nice enough to fix bugs in YaBB that the YaBB developers said they wouldn't fix. Not just normal problems either we are talking a major security flaw. Anyways, good luck with this portal it seems to have great potential. However you really need to not ignore users and you HAVE to get block permissions going. It may be in your plan but since you did not reply to my post on your own site I wouldn't know.

MKPORTAL is looking real nice! I installed it on to my forums, the only thing is, how hard would it be to get it working with the index being called something like index2.php instead of index.php. I have a website at index.php and I want to use MKPORTAL as the center of my forum but using something like index2.php, as MKPORTAL makes it so its index file has to be where the forum directory is, which is where my websites index file is.

In fact I would like it if it could have the whole portal inside my forum directory, the directory and index file in the directory. That would be nice.

Also I like the thing that puts the forum in the portal, but it would be nice if that was used as an additional option rather then a replacement. So you could view the portal and forum together and the forum alone.

I like all the features on it though, and it was quite easy to install.

Great work!  :)

What you are describing is Enigma ;) From my understanding a 2.0 release is a couple weeks away. If that is the case i can wait for it because it is well worth it.

I hope these guys get everything going good because a little competition is good for the end-users :)

There are permissions. Only certain members of my forum can view blocks based on what I set my permissions for. Check the CP PORTAL button and look thru it better!

Mad,
the version of mkportal x SMF is only the first beta.
Use it only to test the portal, the code is not stable and secure.
This version is based on an old core code (Mkportal PR 10) and it have not
all the features of Mkportal 1.1 final x IPB (you can see mkportal 1.1 @ http://www.mkportal.it)

I can't support you in this moment, I am working so hard.
There are four sites to support: Mkportal x (IPB, MyBB, PhpBB, SMF).

As soon as possible the versions of Mkportal for all the boards will be accorpated
ad the support will be centralyze on an unique site.

I have read what you wrote, and as I said you compared a system that lies beside the forum and a system that is merged/from within. Again, its not the same thing. LSP er good, no question of that, but as you say, at present its not for SMF - and MKPortal is. If you want LSP to be developed for SMF, why not ask them to give it a try? (or maybe there are plans , then I stand corrected).

I am not saying MKPortal is without flaws, things can always be enhanced - but as it is looks good to me.

Regarding your questions that dont get answered...what are you called over there? I cant see any "Mad" in the memberlist. ...

I think that is great that you spend all this time working with so many different forum softwares. I have seen a fare share of portals that only worked with one forum software. It sure must get tiring keeping up with all of the forums. :P  I even recall mkportal back when I was an InvisionBoard user and I thought it was quite nice.

Keep up the great work and I look foward to see the future to this great portal. ;)

Well I did and I didn't say it didn't have ANY permissions.

Please tell me where I can say who can see my custom blocks. If it is that hard to find there is some serious structure changes needed to the admin area. I mean do I have to write my own custom php permissions for each block at the beginning? I can only see that way blocking the content in the block not the block title let aloen the entire block itself. Sure some permissions are in there for premade blocks but none that I found for custom blocks. considering custom blocks will probably far out weigh the default ones on any given site I would say it doesn't make sense.

If I am wrong please by all means show me where these settings are. Some things on this portal are simplistic and straight-forward. If this custom block permissions section exists, then I am missing it and there is a layout issue.

If you read the mkportal site ( http://www.mkportal.it ), it looks like it is very easy to code into the block's php files. they key to understanding any system like this is read thier forums and site. Can't just go in complaining about something, because some one else has probably addressed the issue ;)

I am not complaining. Although, I do not find their methods entirey pleasing. There are some basic things that come into play for me. Also, I had posted at their site first only to get no reply. You shouldn't tell people to do stuff if you do not know if it was attempted.

Anyways, I will simply be waiting for Enigma 2.0 hopefully it will be out soon. Their methods of control are much better. Thanks though. And for the record for the like 3rd time or somehing I do think mkPortal has potential, unfortunately their staff is not quite large enough to get everything done that needs to be. They have so far done some pretty good stuff, but I am sure even they agree their could be some improvements.

Well I am actually registered at http://smf.mkportal.it and it is as Mad ;) If it should be at the main site then that is yet one more thing not very clear.

I think smf.mkportal.it is just so you can see it in action ;)

My forum is outside the portal now.  I didnt change it. I clicked the forum link and its now not embedded.  Im not sure why? Anyone experiencing the same problem? ???

Oldiesmann

I will be watching this closely. I am desperate to get my members up to SMF (still running Enigma like you). I was thinking about Mambo, but Mambo has some drawbacks (mainly lack of some features I want and the difficulty with placing modules).
