"Parse" Error in Settings.php

Hey guys,

my forum (http://actbus.bur.st/board [nofollow]) isn't working.. it was working fine, then as soon as i changed the forum's name in the administration area, all i get on any page of the forum is the following error:


Parse error: parse error, unexpected ':' in /home/actbus/public_html/actbus.bur.st/board/Settings.php on line 31

Any advice?

Maybe you should try to fix the error? Use FTP to open up your 'Settings.php', and make sure that that line has the correct syntax, you may need to replace the : with a ; or something similar.

thanks for the fast response!

im not very good with code and all that - i had a look at my settings.php file and it was a bit of a mess, so i grabbed that file out of the setup package, and re-entered my database info and replaced the corrupted file with the fresh one, and it seems to be fine now.

Bit weird that a change of forum name in the administration centre (just changed the name and clicked ok) seems to have set this off though.. not sure if its a bug?

It may be a bug with the SMF admin area, but I am not sure. Did you enter any weird characters like quotes ' ? It may be possible that SMF doesn't sanitise the username that you save, so having a wierd admin name could cause some errors....

Anyway, its good that you managed to solve it.

Nope, just plain text for the new name, and my username.

glad i managed to solve it.. my last backup was from april
